My 2003 Max II come with a 2000 lb Warn winch but the new ones are 2500 lb .More is better but my 2000 lb has always done great for me.When trying to winch a stubborn windfall etc out of the way the 2000 lb always is capable of outpulling the Max's brakes and grip.

I'm running this cheapie on all my machines Champion Power Equipment 1.2 hp. 2000 lb. Pulling Capacity Electric Winch - 1830092 | Tractor Supply Company
they have never let me down. i've pulled a lot of machines out with the one on my attex. when we got Beth her new machine, I broke one of the contacts in her winch trying to get it off the old machine. took it into tractor supply and exchanged it with no receipt and no questions asked. the only thing i don't like about it is that it will not lock in position. if you have a heavy load on it, and let off the button it will allow line to creep out slowly.A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

I bought my last one off ebay....with synthetic cable(great upgrade). I opted for the 2000# model, I doubt I can get a 700# maxII stuck so bad 2000# of pull won't get it out, plus I wanted a smaller lighter one. I did a little research and found out the difference between a good winch (warn) and most of the cheap ones is the type of motor. Most cheap ones use steel gears now too. Cheap winches usually come with a permanent magnet motor, these can overheat on long hard pulls, so.....just be careful and have a little patience.

I've got a Superwinch 2500 X-1 on my Max 2. Its more than adequate. I've seen several Max 4's do quite well with 1700LB Warn winches. When I was in the Army we had a formula for winch loads, a good rule of thumb was to take the winches rating and multiply that by 60% and that figure would give your net weight capacity in a worse case scenario, example a 2000LB winch X .60% =1200Lb capacity in the extreme. Tractor supply is an excellent choice for your winch. I got a pre-Thanksgiving sale and picked up a Champion 3000lb unit for $99, and its going to go on my Swamp Fox. I also noted the Champion 2000lb unit was $89, and they had a 3500lb winch for $129. The Warn 1700 Lb was also on sale for $99.

Look on ebay for a promark winch i had one on my quad and it worked great thats where im going to get one for my max they make one thats 1500 pound with the synthetic cable rope i think thats more than enough when you double the cable it doubles the pulling force thats why i think a small one is just fine for something so lite like we have

I have a 2000# Harbor freight $39.99 special. I could use a little Umph! more if i was to do it again. I mounted it right to the upper tub using +/- 48" long uni-strut inside the tub to spread out the load. i think Home Depot sells power strut brand, look in the electrical dept.1970's Max II
