The split shifter is a good upgrade, but the transmission will have to be braced, to hold it in place. One will need to exercise caution as to when and where they use this option, it can be HARD on a machine. I mostly use mine for making tight turns in the sloppy stuff, or getting out of sloughs and such. I don't recommend using it on hard ground, but that's just my opinion.

The roller kind of adjusters are very good. I got the one's Richard sells and have no complaints.

I take it the roller type adjusters are easily retrofittable to the Max IV, then? I like the ratcheting setup on the Max II.
Having to adjust chains fairly regularly on my motorcycles, I would certainly prefer a system that utilizes either a spring loaded tensioner or at least an axle block with adjuster screws/cams like on most bikes. Holding an idler gear down while tightening a cross bolt (the current setup) is pretty antiquated, IMHO, and potentially leaves to an off-tracking idler gear. I currently do the adjustment by leveraging a large (#3) phillips screwdriver in the slot on the idler gear brackets while tightening the cross bolt (much easier with two people, BTW). I will explore Richards setup.
