  • Max II reverse questions/problem

My wife has a Max II. I have been into off-roading for a long time and I will say that this Max thing is pretty cool. OK. In reverse the Max will only power one wheel bank. In addition, shifting into reverse is a challenge as well. Is this a linkage issue? Any other ideas. Thanks.

It could be a linkage issue but more then likely the diamond shifter pins are worn out. They are the diamond shaped parts that go into the transmission. They are easy to remove and check. There should be a little dowel pin in there that moves the shift collar in the transmission. The dowel pins wear out and create the problem like your stating. If you catch them in time you can heat the shaft part up and pull the dowel out but if the dowel is worn flush you need a whole new diamond shifter.

the reverse only working on one side is probably just an adjustment issue, but it could be damage to the outer drum on the side that doesn't work http://www.6x6world.com/forums/trans...se-1-side.html
do a search for t-20 adjustment and read up on it. try adjusting first and let us know if it doesn't work.
the shifting... there is a bit of technique involved. you kind need to wiggle the steering sticks front to back with one hand while trying to shift with the other... each machine is a little different so you just have to get the feel of yours. there could be an issue with bent linkage, or worn shift pins as well. (discussed here) http://www.6x6world.com/forums/trans...ont-shift.html

You won't see these pins until the diamond mechanism is removed from the trans.

You have to pull the shifter up out of the transmission to see if the shift pin is sheered; it's not something that visible on the outside of the transmission. Here's a picture of the shifter removed from the transmission, and the broken shift pin, which is missing.
