Raise the cover on the engine and watch to see if the clutches are fully engaging when running reving up and down. One my be sticking or your belt tension my be too loose/tight.
The feat of sinking a max is a badge of honor.

Well they should do around 25 mph. Sometimes on YouTube they are two stroke or modified engines.Speed is not a four stroke Max's strong point. I woulld check it in reverse as well as forward, you could have a T20 adjustment issue as well as bierbower37's suggestions I would check first, then check if engine is reaching full factory rpm at full throttle.Could be one or more of several things, but, you'll find it.

bierbower my clutches are not engaging all the way do u think this may be because of the belt being too tight and how do i know its too tight if it is i called RE today and they said the same thing

how would i know if the t20 adjustments arent right? i had to adjust them a tad about a year ago and the clutch on the motor does not rise all the way to the top. it is about an inch from the top. and what is factory rpm on a factory 18 horse briggs?

iv already done the throttle position i had to tighten it alittle maybe an 1/8 of an inch anyone who can help me with this situation could you please try and give me a call at 7066993211 my name is john mcdaniel i would appreciate it very much thanks
