i recently purchased my first maxII and it needs a little work, i believe its an older model, it has the sprockets that bolt to the axle which ive been told has been done away with on newer models. im in need of the center axle and sprocket on the left hand side and two wheel bearings. does anyone know anywhere to get decent priced parts, i was quoted 135 for the axle and 135 for the sprocket at richards relics. is that reasonably priced or can i find them cheaper somewhere else?

Hey 6x6,
Your Max isn't necessarily that old just because it has the bolt-through axles. Some folks actually like that setup a lot better. There are hundreds and hundreds of folks on the board here, so you may want to post a wanted ad in the "Parts Wanted" forum. I don't have any Max II parts personally, but I'm pretty sure we can beat that price you were quoted.
Wheel bearings are cheap. Lots of sources out there. Are you running the 1 1/4" diameter axles on your machine?

Hydromike is right on. Be sure to search through the Max forum here about the bearings and chain. You will want a triple sealed bearing and good quality chain, otherwise you will be replacing them again. There are a lot of threads with the bearing part numbers that include the triple seal. There are also a lot of threads spread out over the forum on what brand of chain works well for members too.
I'm not saying that buying from your tractor supplier is a bad thing. I usually purchase locally as well but just do your homework on everything and check the brand before you buy so you don't have buyers remorse.

yup Mike got that one right for sure, the tractor supply has more than one grade of chain and if you get the cheap stuff you'll likely regret it , Tsubaki chain is usually a good choice where-as most Peer chain is not the high quality that it may have once been (trying to be politicaly correct)He who has not cruised the back country in a 6x6 , has not lived life to it's fullest
A Mans level of mechanical education directly corresponds to the level pain suffered while getting it

first off i have been there and done that #50 roller chain from a tractor supply is NOT the route to go!! Go to you local atv shop and pick up some #530 ATV chain will last you ten times as long you dont need the oring stuff its usualy about 35-40 for ten feet. Buffalo bearing company is a good place for triple seal bearings and very resonable need more help shoot me a pm with your number and ill give ya a call1996 MAX IV ,KUBOTA DIESEL
