  • Max II Outboard Motor Bracket

    Hey folks,

From what i hear, buying an outboard motor bracket for a MAX is pretty much urban legend, they arent made from what I understand...

If that is indeed the case, How can i build one? has anyone here built an outboard motor bracket for their MAX??

I know the tires provide propulsion, however the River where i live does have a tidal interchange with the salty bay, thus there is a current.. I would not wish to take the MAX out in water conditions that can overpower its tire thrust.. Thus i am planning on attaching a nice powerful Minn Kota electric trolling motor to it for more maneuverability power.. As long as i keep the MAX motor running, it will keep the battery charged for pretty much extended movement with the electric outboard..

ANyone have any experience or suggestions in so far as this??

I say thanks again to all, as you have been helping me learn my MAX!

If you mean a trolling motor as opposed to a real outboard, my Max had a piece of 2 x 4 with a piece of angle iron bolted to it, which in turn was bolted to my winch mount on the front. I took it off as I don't use it, but that's all it was. I think an outboard would be kind of extreme, but I don't know much about that stuff anyway.

I fabricated one for the winch mount on the front of my Max II. It works well with a 50 lb thrust long shaft Minn Kota.

Yes i would be using an electric monn kota motor NOT a gas motor... I do have a winch on the front whick i would like to keep there.. I definitely want a rear mount for the motor...

If anyone can create a working bracket, i will buy it off you!

I built a rear mount bracket by u-bolting two pieces of 2x2 about 8 inches apart on top of the cargo rail in the center and bolted it to two pieces of 2x4 about 10 inches long rip cut about 2 1/2 inches wide at the bottom and 3 1/2 inches wide at the top to give me a bit of a tilt and rested these two short pieces on the lip of the upper body. Then in between these two ten inch pieces I bolted a piece of 2x6 between them to fasten the motor to.I bought a cheap 38 lb thrust trolling motor and the mount was good and rugged and it worked fine. The trolling motor pushed the Max quietly as good as the 21 inch Rawhides would do or maybe better. The pain with a rear mount is raising and lowering the motor as you have to be afloat to do it and the Max doesn't care for a lot of jumping around in it while floating. If you don't hve a cargo rail you would have to fasten the pieces up through the upper body.

Eldon, any chance of seeing a pic of the outboard setup for a visualization?
