  • MaxIV and Buffalo Axle Spacing

Why are the 2 rear axles on a MaxIV and Buffalo closer together than front 2 instead of all 3 being evenly spaced?

I have always heard that it was to distribute the weight more evenly since the T20 and engine are in the back.

To put this question to rest, I should get ahold off JoeH here on the forums, and tell him to ask Howard Gerber, the original designer of the RIM, prececessor to the Max IV. The Buffalo and the Max IV share the same lower tub (and a good portion of the frame). He and Howard are good friends and go way back.

I'll see if I can remember to give Joe a call this weekend and see if he can't ask Mr. G. (if Joe already doesn't know )

That would be nice, thank you.

My Hustler 980 has similar spacing. It's really a shame, because I could probably run 28 or 29" tires on the machine if the axle spacing was the same from front to back. 27" is about the limit.
