  • Installing track kit on newer IV

There is a Max IV 950, newer with black rims available locally for a good price. I definitely need tracks but dont know how hard of a job the bearing extensions are. Anybody have any advise? Thanks!

Do you mean to install bearing extensions? If so you need the cages and a set of bearing flanges and a bearing for each, then pull the axles, install the cage with the bearing and flange on the bearing flange at the body then re-install axles. Its a big job no denying.I'm surprised that anyone would buy a powerful machine like that without bearing cages unless they were determined never to use tracks.

The longer you wait, the more work it will be fighting those axles out. Every day those components have to sit and get dirty, each bit of dirt becomes a part of the gunk that'll make those axles feel like they're welded into the frame when you're trying to pull 'em out. If you're gonna do it, do it now. Super clean outer axle areas and the entire interior, soak the axles with PB blaster or the loosener of your choice, let 'em sit for a bit then go at 'em until you're done. A uninterrupted weekend, a helper (or two), and a case of your favorite cold beverage will make the task a little more tolerable.

I would rather take the two bearing axle apart then reassemble a three bearing axle with new and cleaned parts than take an old three bearing axle apart. The reassembly will be OK .I found disassembly of a three bearing axle much more difficult. They simply wouldn't pull with the cages in place.Pulling an axle has a bit of a learning curve but after doing it.I will be comfortable next time. So will you.

Eldon, i allways remove the cage with the axle, then put the axle in a vise and clean up the shaft to get the 2 outer brgs off , then when i put it together i put the cage on the tub first (hand tight) then slide the axle in and then go back and tighten all the flange bolts
