  • Long Way from Buffalo

Hi, I Live in Ireland where I think there are 6 Max's in the whole country. Bought mine new from an authorised agent who had brought six into the country but couldn't sell them. He had mine for 2 years before I bought it unused. He is no longer an agent. Although I bought it new I bought it cheap but have no manual for either the Max2 or the the Kohler engine. are these available in PDF as I requested them from recreative with no response from them as yet. I have found Kohler manuals on the net but not quite sure which one relates to my Max2. Also the rims seem to be leaking on 3 wheels. Can I cure it with tyre weld. I was thinking about tubes but wondering if the tyres are liable to slip on the rims and rip the valve stems out. Bit lonely over here as I have no idea who own the other 5 Max's.

Congratulations on getting your Max. Tubes aren't a good idea just for the reason you posted but you can use a product called "Slime" (perhaps that is what you call tyre weld) to help stop the leaks. It works really well and if you don't have it locally you may be able to order it online. Upload some pictures of your max to the gallery so we can check it out.

Hi Phil....just a little curious. How is the riding there? Restrictions, permits, or is it pretty open to the use of your machine? I would think that would be a beautiful place to explore.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

The Kohler in your Max II should be a Kohler Command 23 hp. V-Twin horizontal shaft. This link should take you to a download for the Kohler manual in pdf format. The manual for the Max II,Max IV and Buffalo Truck are all in the same book.Recreatives Industries has them for a fairly reasonable price I think. What tyre pressure are you running?I think it should be only 2.5-5 psi with my preference at 3 psi. http://www.asberry.net/Kohler.htm[/URL]

Hi Phil, sometimes we can get dirt, bark, bits of wood etc. buried between the tire and the rim. You might want to try breaking both beads and cleaning or wire brushing and repainting the bead area. Lots of people like tire slime but I have never needed it. Welcome to the site. Hope you find those other five guys. They are no doubt looking for you.

Ireland has tightened up its road laws over recent years so you wouldn't chance driving one on the roads unless its paddys day and you join the parade. I live on the shores of Loch (lake) Derg which is surrounded by lots of forestry land which you can use without a problem. There are also lakes at the top of some of the hills. We also have bogs which may be unique to Ireland. They are hard to describe but imagine very soft mud with a firmer crust. You can cut the soft stuff, dry it out and burn it as fuel (Turf). The reason I got the Max was to pull the dried turf off the bog as quads tend to sink. I have not managed to get the Max stuck yet even pulling a trailer of turf. When driving on the bog the ground around it moves, like an earthquake effect... very weird. So yes it is a good place for ATV's,unfortunately there is no one for me ride with.
