what is the difference between a big max and a normal i didnt know there was a difference

My Impression is that the Big Max was a Twin Cylinder 2-stroke powered MaxII, as opposed to the JLO-259 and whatever other singles they were using at the time (and 4-strokes if they were an option in a max at that time?).

Yea I own a big max now I bought last september and it came with the original motor which was a 400 twin jlo and a three point roll bar .the motor was smoked in it so I dropped another 400 in it thanks to hydromike and it runs like a bear if I ever get my phone to work right I will post pics

I bought the 11th Big Max off the assembly line in 1972. They had a 400 twin JLO & #50chain & that's what they called a Big Max. Maybe they put a Kawasaki in it later, but not when they first came out.

Whipper is spot on, the earlier Big Maxes had the 400 JLO and then there were later ones that came with the Kawasaki 440. I believe the 440 Kawasaki was a TA440A, CDI ignition, Mikuni carb.

Hey, I own the same machine too,soon to be powered by 440 Cuyuna with a 34 Mikuni. Do either of you know proper drive belt size or number? Thanks for any input.

All Big Maxes were 2 strokes......if you're going for speed, a 2 stroke is the way to go! It will outrun just about any comparable 4 stroke out there.

This is what mine had in it. Don converted it to 4 stroke for me. I still have it. keeps the snow off my trailer.

Get that thing of the trailer and drive it. Btw hopefully this weekend I will finally mount those tires I got of you...I havn't had much stick time myself lately. That's just the way it goes sometimes.

I have a Big Max that has a JLO 440 in it. It had had a roll bar at one time...now missing (am looking for one). Since you guys have Big Maxes, can one of you email me a picture of the engine mounting plate. Mine looks really kludged together. Additionally, if you no longer are running the 440 JLO, I would like to find an engine mounting plate that has not been modified.
I am still struggling with my engine which I just rebuilt.
I would like to find a black pleated with gold piping bottom seat cushion. Mine has been custom modified . .I still have the rear sea cushion...jsut not the bottom.

Big max II

Does any one know, or have any info on the Kohler engine that it used to come out with. It's red with the roll bar. We don't know what size the engine is except it's 42cc, 2 stroke 2 cylinder, t20 tyranny and there's about all we know. Thank you in advance for any info.
