engine surges while idling

I have a max 2 and while it idles it surges and almost quites. It runs good other than that. Any help would be great.

Mossman, welcome to the forums What motor do you have in your Max. It sounds like you just need to adjust your idle.

If it is a Briggs, you may have to simply adjust your idle mixture, via the idle mixture screw...once your sure the idle is high enough as mentioned Mike. Between those two things, it will uaually solve a Briggs pulsating at idle...

That would be my guess.. idle mixture so lean that the engine starts to die, but the governor pulls the throttle open.

Thanks for the help guys. I adjusted the idle and found that one plug wire was arcing. It is running great now.
