Backup Lights

I got an ideal for back up lights. How bout adding backup lights. There could be a switch that activates them when the tranny is shifted to reverse. A button that is pushed in when the shifter or maybe the shifter levers are up against the switch.. Any thought ???

When I bought my most recent Max II, the guy had a back up light installed. When you shift into reverse it goes on when your lights are on. I'll take a closer look at how it works and report back to you.

I would use a brake light switch from a on/off road bike or something like that. They are small and usually activaded by pulling or pushing them. They are easy to mount too. Maybe even a brake light switch from a older truck. I would use the trans lever. You would need 2 switches and alot more wire if you used the levers.

You could use a universal car door pin switch. Just wire it into a relay fed by the ignition!

You could also use this for a reverse light!

Here's the lighting circuit using a pin switch, and a standard 30amp relay. You should have no problem finding these at the local auto parts store!

I used a brake light switch from a Yamaha motorcycle, scavenged from a junker. Two wires, it couldn't be simpler. I mounted it to the frame down by my left heel and ran a piece of coat hanger forward to connect it to the aux brake pedal pivot. (Max II).I replaced the rear surface lights with rubber-mounted flush units that are sealed and virtually unbreakable. I originally tried to hooks the brake lights to the laterals but that did not work out for a variety of reasons. A switch like this will easily light two lights without a relay. You can warn the person behind you that you are stopping by pushing down slightly on the brake pedal, just like you do in your car.

I would change that 30 amp fuse to something like 7.5 amps.

As a last minute thing before a weekend ride, I dug up a 20 year old k mart amber fog light and stuck it on the back, wired to headlight circuit. You might like some light back there without having to shift into reverse to get it.

I would change that 30 amp fuse to something like 7.5 amps.

If you use LED's on the rear you can actually run a 10amp micro relay from radio shack, and use a 5amp fuse. I'm gonna add a set of LED's to the rear, and just run them 15amp fused through a switch. But that's just me, and I think i will like to have the use of my lights without using the ignition, or gear shift!
