  • Are you are tired of dealing with this?

broke ax 1.jpgnew ax 1.jpgThen what you need are those (pic 2). A new set of splined axles and hardened sprockets worked up by Whipper. What I have been rebuilding is a 89 Max IV that I had purchased a couple of years ago and have keep pieced together for many long hard rides. But there comes a time after constant breakdowns that you say enough is enough and either sell the machine or bite the bullet and make it better. To give you some idea what I was dealing with I know for a fact that this machine went through about four different owners in about a year and a half . When I bought this machine it was the first time I had even seen an AATV. Even with all the head aches and hair loss I decided I loved riding it enough to bite the bullet. So what I will share when my time allows are some of the improvements I have made to the machine to enable it to handle the abuse I like to throw its way. The one thing I could not have done without is all the great info contained within this web site. So keep up the good work.

There's nothing like shiny new sprockets and axles to drool over.

Good investment! You will never be sorry you made the switch. Enjoy!
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

          You'll bend a rim before you'll bend an axle....Congrats!

You can pm whipper through the members list. (whipper-ag). You will not be disappointed in the quality of the work.
In addition to the problem I had with the entire drive train my frame was in need of a little TLC. A big problem area was where the trans mounted. As you can see in the pic the frame was all distorted due to the torquing of the transmission. I first tried to bolt of some additional metal strapping to each side of the frame down at the trans attachment bolts but that did not seem to last for long. So I decided to do it right and cut out all the bad metal and rebuild the frame with 1/4" metal from the trans mounting bolts on back. I also built a more secure way of holding the t20 down that I had mentioned in another thread. Not only does this hold it in place securely it allows quick removal of the trans. Frame cracks were welded and two gussets were added to either end of the heavy metal angle at the rear of frame that holds the t20 chain adjustment. bolts
