I brought my Max IV over to a local iron works place recommended by a friend to get a quote for a custom roll cage. I brought him the specs for the factory cage, but was thinking I'd like to add some modifications. I was thinking of adding a handrail type grab bar for the rear. This would come off the rear vertical pole, follow the lines of the MAX about 2 inches higher and then come back down onto the angle iron before the front bench seat. It might make getting in more difficult, but it should also help keep people in it by giving them something to hold on to. I was also thinking about a front brush guard of some sort. Any other thoughts or ideas? I hope to get a price today…

I've been surfing the gallery section...I like this one best: http://www.6x6world.com/gallery/max-...2-max-002.html
Not sure I'd want the bar going across the middle though...I'd also like to incorporate the factory windshield and get a nice fit around that with no gaps. This looks like it would work, but it's a bad angle.

And maybe a brush guard similar to this:

Got it back today! Unfortunatley, there is a problem. I specified I wanted the cage 48" tall, but it only measures around 39". The measurements didn't really hit me until I got it home. This guy has been building race cars and roll cages for over 20 years. I don't know how he could have messed this up, I'd get scalped if I ever rolled it.
Hopefully he'll make things right. The other thing I'm not too happy about is the single bolt making the cage removable. It doesn't seem like it would hold up...It doesn't even look like it's a grade 3 or 5. An easy fix, I can replace it with a grade 8 bolt. But is one enough? Other than that, I like the rest. I have a removeable tow hitch that I can move from rear to front.

The factory cage has two bolts at each post but one will probably be fine. How high up do the inner tubes go? There may be enough to put another bolt through? As for the height, it looks high enough in the photos? The higher it gets the more it gets hung up on fallen trees. I think it turned out pretty good overall.

This is my custom MAX IV cage. It has complete surround and ties into ladder frame. Rear hoop supports the rear seat which is moved back about 3 inches. New engine cover is removed with 4 quick release pins and will carry 300-400 pounds. Front andbrear seat mounts each come out with 4 quick release pins. Top of cage includes 4 tabs to allow carrying cargo on top. Also welded plates to mount off road lights just under top of the cage. Finishing up winch mount and four tow hook mounts. Will powder coat next week. Thanks,
Gary
