ABS will take paint, HDPE won't. You can buy uppers and lowers from recreative's up in Buffalo NY. If you happen up that way, I've heard of fantastic deals on blemish bodies. Maybe a good way to go. Everyone I've seen with a fresh body looks like a new machine to me.

It's HDPE, only the very early 70's Max IIs were ABS.

Polyethylene will take paint, if done correctly. I don't know the procedure or the product, but Whipper's Spider is a poly machine, I believe, and it's painted. It's held up well (the paint ) for the use it sees....

About 7 years ago i acquired a step 2 poly mailbox. It had another address on it and my mom had some spray paint specifically formulated for such plastics. i gave it a shot or 4, now when i drive past my old house, the paint has faded to the point that you can see the original green plastic through the paint. i never even took it off roading or anything. i will stick with my original suggestion of getting a new body. My other thought was one of those wrap jobs they do for cars and trucks. just make sure the shop will warranty the wrap against peeling and such.

To paint it you have to treat it like a car bumper....an auto body shop can help you out. The problem is the first tree you bounce off from will total the expensive paint job. It will crack and peel.
Of course, I've never hit a tree (on purpose lol). do saplings count as trees?
The big question is: Do you want to keep it in showroom condition or drive it like it's stolen? Stolen is far more fun

                hi,
As mentioned previously u have to treat the body like a flexiable bumper bar .
Not only will u have to add a flexiable agent to the paint ,u will also need to find an industrial paint that has this as an option. Painting is a system and one maker cannot guarantee its products to blend with anothers .
If the body is deteriated to the point that painting is required ,does it have small cracks also .
The best solution could be to replace upper body and paint lower .
Quality industrial paint with a flex additive can be expensive not to mention the time for preperation
