  • Max IV Problems

I just bought a 1997 Max IV looks clean new sprockets but the chains look like worn
I have searched and 530 chain looks best but the rear axle just free wheels in gear
looks like the two bolts that go through the axle are missing. I saw the chain adjustmen movie and know my chain are way to loose. Also it has the track
extension kit on it but one rear tire is pushed in the dude I bought it from said it could just be pulled out. Kinda need a little help with how much chain and this spacer problem.

If the bolt that holds the sprocket tube onto the axle is missing then the sprocket tube will rotate on the axle and no power will be transferred to the tires. Replace said bolt. If the axle is moving in and out of the 6x6 then the locking collars on the bearings are not properly locked. Look in the how-to section here on the front page of the site and there is a how-to article and video on what to do. If the chains are loose, tighten them with the adjusters by loosening the bolts and sliding them down. If they have no more adjustment left then you need to replace the chains.

ALL the bearings, sprockets and chains? If you get sprockets from the factory (a lot easier than building your own sprocket tubes and welding sprockets on) and try to save a little money on the bearings and can get the 520 chain at a good price, I bet you could do it for around $500- $600. I think it really depends on what RI would charge you for the sprockets/sprocket tubes. They get pricey fast, unless he has some he's willing to part with cheap-cheap.

Expect to spend at least $12.00 a bearing shipped to you, and that's for KML brand. Peer and Fafnir/Timken bearings can get expensive fast, and I think the last time I got some from RI, they were $25-30 each for the 62mm outer bearings.

Who's RI? If I can replace everything for 600 that would be great.
          Thanks

Got it. Just talked to Richard Relics and it sound like this is going to be very expensive. I hope I can find cheaper parts.

Just curious.... What prices did Richard quote you for his parts? He doesn't really post prices for most things on his Site, but it would be nice to know what he's asking for stuff.

I need the middle sprocket and the rear sproket 150.00 each. 530 oring small drive chain 50.00 and 500 chain for the rest 150.00. I guess this drive system is no more I have to convert to a splined system I would just to replace everything but this is expensive. Where do you get your parts?

I recently got Tsubaki chain from EBAY.

52 links for transmission to rear, 116 links for rear to mid, and 122 links for mid to front.

I only got one pack of 52 link, and two packs of 116. This alone would have cost $356 plus shipping from Recreatives + shipping, but I only paid $223 on ebay with shipping!

Here is a link to the seller, but for some reason they don't appear to have anything for sale...

There is still several sellers who have it though. What you need is Tsubaki Omega 530 s chain.
