  • Help with my Max Please.....

Just bought a 2003 MaxII 450T runs great, went in the water a few times, came back and loobed all chains and greased all fittings removed center tires to reach grease fittings then put everything back together, now I have a popping noise when moving, re-checked everything tightened slack adjusters on chains so thats not the problem any ideas on what it could be????

Were your tires off the ground when you tightened the chains? Stock ratcheting type adjusters? My guess is you still have loose chains. The stock adjusters can get worn or gunked up and slip. Lifting the tires off the ground allows the chains to be tightened more accurately as there is always some amount of play in the bearings and such.

The machine needs to be elevated off the ground to adjust chain tension properly. While the machine is on the ground you won't be able to get proper chain tension, you may think you have it dialed in that way, but it is either too tight or too loose. Elevate the machine all the way up so that all 6 tires are off the ground, then adjust the tension of the adjusters until the chains have about half an inch of deflection at the mid point. Then you'll be good to go.
