max II amp guage how many amps should I see?

my vanguard 18hp has a splice wires on the stator, so I am wondering if it is good anymore.
What I should see as a range from idle to wot.

At idle the alt shouldn't be putting out squat....So the meter should read about 0, or turn on the lights and it'll read neg 3 or 4 amps. Rev the engine and it should quickly go into the positive. Cant say how much because that depends on how much your alternator puts out and how depleted your battery is. Basicly just look for the needle in the positive direction and you should be charging.
