New to 6x6's

Hello all, this is a very nice site, i have recently acquired an older MAX II, it seems to have a locked up motor, the tranny is out of it and will be delivered in a day or so. the chains are pretty rusty but the body {top and Bottom} are in very good condition, the tires are in good shape as well.......sooooooo, were to start? lol - -i guess clean clean clean is in order from there i'll be disassembling everything to see what can be cleaned and salvaged and what needs to be replaced.....i do have a Yamaha Enticer 250 motor....i haven't seen any rigs with sled motors in them and was wondering if there was a reason? speed? power? just doesn't work?

Again, i look forward to gleening lots and lots of information from this site....the final plan for this lil rig is to build the only 6X6 "side by side" in the area used for a landscape business

Welcome to the site Snowboss and congrats on your MaxII.
Most of the older amphibs came with 2 stroke motors. They are FAST, but also noisey, smokey, and typically tempermental. 4 Strokes give better low end torque making them more user friendly (or idiot proof) especially when trail riding.

it has a Tecumseh motor in it and the serial number is 6648..round headlights..the color of the top is red...don't know if this helps in identification or not???

Welcome snowboss! Congrads on the sixbysix!

If your gonna be using for landscaping, i'd say 4 stoke it! lol or get that techumshe fixed up! I'd start with cleaning like you said. Check your wheelbearings, and after that if you say the chains are ok, i'd run em till they give ya problems. Get some more pictures for us all to check it out and maybe tell ya things to address or look at. As for the picture you posted, a little sanding and im sure the body's color will come back. Now..one thing i DID notice in the picture...the front right wheel looks to be "Cocked" a little?..is this an optical illusion?...or is it really cocked? just look down the side of it from out front or back behind and see if they all seem to be lined up.

as for year of your machine, you'll have to call Recreatives Industries and give them your model number, then they can tell you what year the machine is. Either way, you got yourself a machine with a T20 trans, you'll enjoy it regardless of what you decide to do first. Keep us up to speed on what you do!! Cant wait to see some "Build" pictures! Muhaha!

Welcome to the site. Its probably a OH180? Those old Tecumseh are good motors. I've never had a problem with them. I see a lot of people trash Tecumseh though, lol.

How stuck is the motor? Id put your favorite liquid of choice in the spark plug hole and let is sit a while like a week. PB Blaster,Fuel,Diesel,Kerosene,Liquid Wrench,tranny fluid, everybody has a different answer lol... Time to time try putting a wrench on the crankshaft/clutch bolt and try wiggling it every few days. Be patient. If that dont work and the piston is up at all, rig a sparkplug threaded end with a grease zerk and pump away. Or stick a block of wood on the piston and hammer away. Good luck!

Indeed they are! lol Simple carbs for simple ppl. usually parts layin around by the dozen...depending on which one it is! haha

snowboss: where ya located? prolly help to let ppl knwo this way if and when you run into issues, if someone close by can help, im sure they'd be more than willing to help!

Mustang - - - the tires are flat or low on air hence the "cocked" appearence...i just looked down the sides like you said and the rims are perfectly straight....wheeeew ...you had me nervous there, lol

Larry - - i will definatley try to free the ol indian up before looking for another motor - - -4 stroke does make better sense for idleing and running around peoples properties....good point - - -if i can keep her original id love to.....im a PB blaster, seafoam and Marvel mystry oil guy by the way, lol

i will be taking her into work and hitting it with the steam genny this week so i'll get some good pics then

Those Tecumseh OH series engines are torque monsters that run forever with proper maintainence. I've got a nice running Tecumseh OH160 motor that came out of a 6 wheeler. It doesn't have a carb or coil on it, but other than that it's a really nice engine, strong running and smoke free. If you're interested we can work a deal out. All you'd have to do is put your coil and carb on it and go. Welcome to the site!

ok....a little bad news............the guy i got the MAX from brought the transmission over to me yesterday..................um..................... ...it's a t-92, has belt pulleys on it and a short shift lever.......looks to me like something that would come out of an old wheelhorse lawn tractor or something. his answer was "well thats all i got, sorry" - i guess for the price i paid {free} plus he delivered it to my house i really can't bitch to much eh?

sssssoooooooo......i guess i am now in need of a T-20 if anyone has a cheap one they would like to part with let me know. work has been hecktic this week {i drive a tri-axle dumptruck} and everyone is trying to get their work done before the paving plant closes for the season up here, so i havnt been able to even look at the MAX other than to pat it on the butt on my way to the truck in the wee hours of the morning, wait maybe that was the wife.....no....nope it was definately the MAX lol.....have a good people
