Yes , the more time that we spend behind the control sticks of our machine, the more we understand about what we can do in it and also what we should'nt attempt to try in it. Once you have your Max IV set up to split shift , you'll be so glad that you did ,that you'll wonder why Recreatives does,nt offer this option from the factory.

I don't live where the temp. would be an issue. Also I'm not that concerened with mud as the actuators would be at least partialy enclosed. Lastly if the actuators were mounted level with the shifters on the t-20 water shouldn't be a problem.

                Any other thoughts?

jstout, some of the other guys touched on the mud and water aspect of things so I will deal with the mechanical. I love cool ideas and I think you've got one, (I mean heck, I had an electric blower hooked up to the carb on a 950 I owned) but there are a couple things to be considered. As was stated earlier in this thread, the biggest advantage to having a split shifter is simply the ability to get into gear with ease. While shifting, there is a need to have a sense of "feel" for what is going on with the shift collars as you go about trying to shift your machine. I am sure you know that with the system you are thinking of this "connection" to the collars would be lost. The shift collars in a t-20 don't like being partially engaged and will strip easily(personal experience) if not meshed properly and there are whooping kids hollering in your ear as you slam the throttle to your machine after shifting and not getting the said proper mesh. Another thing to consider is cost, I don't know if you have access to these actuators (free) or if you will have to buy them, but is the cost gonna be hard to swallow if they can't be made to work? Just a couple things to think about. Good luck with it, let us know if you need any help, were the best amphibious atv sounding board anywhere.

Well I guess it would be similar to the push button four wheel drive in a Chevy.

What do you think about the shift kit Richards Relics sells. It has a spring on each side of the shifter pawl and each side of the t-20. 4 springs and a homemade bracket. I guess this allows time for mesh to happen before grinding it in gear.

I bought an easy shift kit just like you are talking about from Richard Relic and this cost me $79 plus $21 for the shipping. This is just a 1/4 inch round shaped like an L with two washes on either end,two springs. You could make this yourself for about $3.00 probably. The easy shift kit helps about 30 % In contrast though , a split shifter helps about 98 %. One side of the T-20 will always slip into gear, and only a slight jiggle to the other stick makes that side slide in too.

The spring setup works well enough, but why not just make your own?
Even with the springs, it's NOT a split shift.....You could build the split shifter and still put the springs on it if you like.
The springs allow one side to engage before the other, still holding pressure on the side that has not engaged yet. You will still have to hold the lever in place till that side engages. With the split shift you will feel each side "pop" in knowing it is in gear.

Thanks Guys for the info. Mudbug3 I just ordered it from RR cost 110 shipped .probably could of made it myself but I want to be able to plow and rocking a 1200# MaxIV to get it to shift is hard and I Look like I am having a epileptic fit in the front seat while the neighbors watch me grind away on the seat and the gears!

Does anyone besides RR sell a split shift kit?

No one sells a split shift kit. Recreatives sells an easy shift kit. Comparing the easy shift kit to a split shifter that was built properly is like driving a riding lawn mover and then driving a chevy impala. Its a night and day difference!
