  • damaged lower body

I have the old style tracks on my max2. The retaining collar on my front right axle (looking at it from outside the machine front) came loose. This pulled the track into the lower body, cutting a smooth grove in it. My chain also came off and bent. My friend hogneck fixed that. My question is, has any one tried to fill or repair such a groove in their body. If so, how did you do it and did it wok? P.s. it did not cut all the way through the body. My baby is wounded, please help!

There is an article that evil8x8 posted on how to repair poly. You can get to it from the home page, but basically you need a patch piece that you heat up as well as your wounded part at the same time then when they both start to melt slighty you press it together. You could also get a replacement lower from ri. You can get a slightly blemished one fairly cheap if you go up there. If its not through the body yet though, I would run it until there is some sort of real crack or puncture. You can buy your backup tub and then be fearless untill your current tub gets brutally damaged if that ever happens.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

R.I. may or may not have any blemished lower tubs.......They are super picky on the tops, but a light scratch in the lower may be acceptable. Or so I've heard. Never hurts to call and ask though.

G/flex Epoxy Adhesive Kit - 655-K at NRSweb.com G/flex Epoxy Adhesive Kit - 655 - k i used this to fix a 6" curved slash that went through my max IV lower tub behind my rear wheel. seems that the driven clutch came off while it was spinning and ate my tub. took some window screen ( metal ) pop riveted it over the gash and then covered that with this epoxy. has been over two years with no problems.

Thanks for the information. I will try epoxy on my wounded tub. I will also call r.I. as for going up there, for me it is a long drive south west. Very much worth the trip. For years I have watched the vidios on this site and read about peaple riding together. I finally met hogneck. He is a fabricater and one hell of a good welder. Turns a mean wrench as well. He has a Max 4. For as many years and three machines later, I have never been on a trail ride. Hogneck took me for a ride along the mighty St.Lawrence river. I have never had so much fun in my life. Now I know what 6x6 is all about.

I read the article on poly repair. That is a great article.as I am not sure where to get poly, I will sacrifice a little strip of my floor pan. Thanks to everyone for your comments. That's what makes this site so great.

Felt brave today after reading all of your posts. Got out the propain torch and a putty knife.trimmed. a piece of my floor board before I noticed that my salt shield and all three of my jet sleds were made of poly as well. I heated up the putty knife and went to town on the lower tub. Doesn't look ptitty but it worked. First aid complete, my baby is back on the road again. Now I am going to go through each axle and make sure everything is prepped according to the barring. Video that Mike put on the how to section of the site. I will have to change out the front sprocket and chain. I also found the axles are hollow. If I upgrade them, does that mean I have to change anything else.

Glad to see you were resourceful in your search for some poly! Actually, HDPE is amazing plentiful. Anything with the recyling number of "2" is HDPE. Depending on what color you need, you can find just about every shade under the rainbow, and you can even mix some colors together if you blend them at the right temperature. For example, Hustlers tend to be a mix of Hershy's chocolate syrup brown mixed with a little green from some certain shampoo bottles. I only had to seal a couple small rivet holes, but I wanted to try to see if I could match it up close.

A harbor freight plastic welder and a black plastic bucket works nice too! The black plastic bucket is made from hdpe so it will fuse together good.
