  • Max II vs Kawasaki Mule: Max 1, Mule 0 :) Kinda funny.

The airport where I work just bought a Mule to check the fence line in the back wooded section. It rained yesterday & the ground's wet, but not swampy. I usually use my Max as how can you beat playing & getting paid to do so?, but the airport management wanted to foot the bill & got the Mule. I went down a slope to check the fence where it crosses a ditch. I got ready to come back up & made it halfway up the hill & it just started spinning! Ha, the tires were all balled up with mud. I wasn't stuck, just getting no traction at all. Even getting a running start, in 4 wheel drive with the diffs locked in, nothing but spinning! I walked the mile or so back to the office & got a friend who works here to go back with me in the Max. Let me tell ya, the Max single-handedly pulled the Mule up that hill almost all the way to the top. Once the Mule got to the top of the hill, it could get some traction & helped itself, but the Max just hunkered down, dug in and pulled the ol' Mule all the way up! The Max really impressed me with this feat. The Mule, well, it really disappointed me. I guess as long as it's pretty dry back there, I'll use it, but when it's wet, you can bet I'll still take my good ol' sure-footed Max. I knew the Mule would have some limitations with the ditches & some other areas, but wouldn't have thought it wouldn't climb a wet hill! I joke that I call my Max 'my magic shoes', 'cause like Forrest Gump said the reason his Momma called his braces his magic shoes, 'it'll take me anywhere'! Max 1, Mule 0! Merry Christmas, y'all.

Good show for the Max. The Mule is "OK" for a farm vehicle, but with the other side X sides on the market, I don't know why anyone would buy a Mule. Their engines are slow and underpowered, suspension is similar to an old log wagon, and they just don't have the features and updates that the other vehicles have. The Polaris Ranger is by far the best all around side X side on the market. Huge suspension rides like no other, cab is very comfortable, and the engines flat out rock. The 500 is a great engine but if you really want a serious machine, the 800 EFI can't be beat. Stomp down on the throttle and that 800 will throw a roost of mud all the way up any hill you'll dare climb.
Everybody dies, but not everybody lives.

If i had to do it all over again...id buy the Teryx..i dont mind the rangers at all, but ive seen and heard ALOT less horror stories bout the trex vs the rangers. plus, their cheaper. lol i aint knocking rangers at all, thats just my personal opinion.

And as for mules, your right..underpowered and undercharged (charging sytem that is) BUT..man can mine haul a buttload of wood! lol Completely full bed (usually over the side of bedside extensions i made..) and a FULL trailer, and it just goes and goes. A good trick to do on mules is go UP a size on the jets right off the bat...helps out BIG TIME! ill run my 610 till the motor blows, then ill figure out a way to stuff a 16 or 18 into it. lol cuz that little baby single thats in there from factory aint got snot on my 16 in the attex!

Put a little bit of weight in bed of the mule and it will make a huge difference! And maybe a set of better tires. If the mule didn't climb the hill a stock ranger wouldn't either! As for a Mule 3000-4000 series vs a Ranger, I'll keep- take our Mule over it any day! Mule is very dependable and less maintenance cost. Have had both! Compare apples to apples. Side by sides are a different class. I would love to have a new Teryx 4 seater! Those things will get up and go!
