Folks,
I am about to purchase I believe a 2006 Max II with 2 hours on it from one of my wife's relatives. I went to take it for a spin and it would not start. It has the 14HP vanguard motor. The gas smelled and looked old and I imagine the carbs are plugged. Last time it was run was in July. We could not even get it to turn over with Ether, which leads me to believe it was also flooded pretty good as well fromcranking prior to my arrival. The current owner is having his shop mechanic run through it and hopefully get it running this week so I can drive and hopefully purchase it.
Anyhow, the machine was used a few times in salt water mainly. the axle hubs have surface rust and the interior chains etc have a light surface rust on them as well. There are less than 10 hours on the machine, which is great. I plan to jack it up and check the bearing for excessive play and noise once they get it running. Since I am newbie, what else should I look for?
I hope the no start is a simple fuel issue. Any insight at all on this model etc will be a great help. I have poured through many many excellent posts on here already
