  • Tracks on Max IV

I recently purchased a set of tracks for my 95 Max IV from Richards Relics. I also purchased a set of tires and rims as well (size that was suggested). Now that I have put tires and tracks on unit, I have little on hardly any clearance between tracks and front and middle wheels. Anyone have any experience or suggestions?
    Thanks

you will need wheel spacers OR you can use a heatgun or propane torch to remold the lower part that hit the tracks. That's what I have done on my 2008 so I can use the 1.5" lugs rubber tracks over the 23" tires I had. Now the wheel wells are flat from front to back.

If you're going to run tracks and don't want to remold the tub and just have an easy bolt on option, call up Recreatives and get the wheel hub spacers for tracks. Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511 Or if you don't mind doing a little bit of work to get some extra ground clearance, you can do what Smog did.

Thanks for your response. I did purchase the 5" wheel spacers from Richards but these do not get tracks away far enough from the top of front and middle tires. It appears that you solved a similar problem with the heat gun and remolded the tub to make it flat. I purchased a set of 21"x11x8" of tires/rims along with spacers and tracks. Clearance on rear tire is still only about 2". If I can get lower tub portion flat to meet the rear tire clearance, will 2" be enough? Did you use heat gun or torch, and did you have any problems afterward? I really appreciate your reply.
              Thanks again

Cost for the 6 spacers was $380.

I bet Tim at Adair Argo sales could have made you six spacers much cheaper than $380

$380 for a set of 6 spacers from Richard Clark is insane......along with all of his prices. If we can ever help here on 6X6World, post an ad on the classifieds and someone might have something that they'd sell much cheaper.

2" should be sufficient clearance between the tracks and body as long as you don't plan on running at high speeds for an extended period of time. Tracks make the machine all kinds of fun in the snow!

And in the mud too , when you see your friends in wheeled amphibs struggle to drive through a bad mud hole that you just eased through with out any effort. lol

Thanks for the info. I wish I would have done what you have suggested. I have tried using a heat gun like you suggested to shrink the tub's low spot where I am having the clearance issue. I have made some progress but still have along ways to go to get needed clearance needed. Do you have any suggestions on best method to do? I only use my Max for ice fishing and wanted the tracks for when the lake gets alot of snow and SLUSH. I am hoping that the tracks will do the trick.
Thanks for you help and input!

This is a trick that I learned from an amphib friend of mine:

                              1. Let all the air out of the tire under the spot where you need the added tub clearance.
                              2. Use a heat gun to heat the area on the tub where you need the extra clearance.
                              3. Place a 1x4 board over the tire under the spot where you just heated the tub up , and then air the tire up so that the 1x4 board presses into the spot that you just heated.
                              4. Leave the board in place for about 4 hours.
                              5. If you need a little more tub clearance , let all of the air out again , reheat the tub again, put two 1x4 boards on top of the tire and leave in place for another 4 hours

This should give you the tub clearance that you need.
