  • Thanks for the great community!!

So I had my first (Major) breakdown today in my Max II. While pushing a large pile of snow (With my homemade plow setup) I was being a little rough with the sticks and suddenly heard and felt a thud under my butt . And then all I had was drive on the right hand side. It was obvious I must have broken a chain. So I popped the seat and right there as easy to get to as could be was the chain that goes from the Jackshaft to the center wheels. Pulled it out and saw the busted pin on the chain. My first thought was a master link. But the only one I could get was for regular roller chain and the pins where not long enough. This had the sealed o-ring stuff.

So off to the forums I went, with the anticipation of heading to the local tractor supply to source some chain quickly. But after reading that many people had not been impressed with the quality there I decided to call around. So I called my local motorcycle shop (I also own a 2004 C90 Suzuki Boulevard) and asked what they had. They had a length of diamond brand chain in the back that had been sitting in a shelf still in the box since sometime in the 80's!! I had read that as one brand several people recommended and jumped on it.

I got a deal on it and headed down to pick it up. Had them go ahead and cut it to the length I needed and ventured home to the snowbank the Max was freezing into. less than 15 minutes I had the master link in and backed out of that snowbank like nothing ever happened.

Being that I had never done ANYTHING with chains in my life apart from putting a fallen chain back on my bicycle as a kid, the forums where clutch throughout the whole procedure of what to buy, where to source it, and how to perform the repair.

This is an awesome community and I am glad we have so many AATV enthusiasts here providing information and tips on these awesome machines!!

Hey Sheild, sorry to hear about the bustdown, but glad to hear you got it fixed. Might be time to drop a few bucks on one of these:

Biker's Choice Chain Breaker | Motosport

Anybody on here can tell you they are a "must have item" along with a bunch of extra master links, when loading the tool box for an outing. Throw in a length of chain and you will be ready for on the trail chain trouble.

I have actually been looking at several different ones. A few that look exactly like this! So this is one that some fellow 6x6'ers would recommend?

This is the one I use and it works great for anything up to and including #60 (60 is a little tough, but it works on it). I've used others but none work nearly as well for me. I'll try and link to the ebay auction.
