That's an impressive Max II! I was really taken with the design and workmanship that went into the beast, and can only imagine the time and headaches. You can't help but wonder what an Attex highboy would look like......

Great job, Jim! Pictures don't do the machine justice.
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

    (6) Attex, a Hustler, a Super Swamp Fox, (2) Tricarts, (3) Tri-sports, a Sno-co trike, 3 Dunecycles, and a Starcraft! ...so far

The side by side comparison of your tall tub Max II and Don's Hustler 980 really gives the forum members a good idea of how big a Max II will be with your modifications. I went to the video link that you posted of the plastic epoxy wield and watched the video. This epoxy is really impressive!

Don; I was thinking the epoxy would be a great way to save an old machine with the brittle body...like piece together an old tank trainer. I bet you could even make a tank trainer.

Mudbug; Imagine wanting to add a skidplate to an old machine....just turn it upside down and apply the epoxy and some fiberglass cloth.......or glue on flat piece(s) of HDPE, no heating and molding. The key to adhesion is all in the prep. The mfgr gives instructions on how to scratch, clean and flame treat the plastic for the best adhesion.

A huge thanks to Jim for letting me drive the Max II Bigfoot. That machine was unstoppable and the amount of power at your disposal seemed limitless. Squeeze the throttle and you just keep going......no flat spots in that power curve, it just kept pulling and pulling whether you were crawling hills or powering down a trail. Jim took every detail into consideration and addressed the flaws of a stock Max II when building this and engineered it to be as close to perfect as an AATV could be. Hats off to you and thanks again for letting me test pilot it!

Man you are one lucky dude JP!

Hey Jim, if you put a donation cup beside the Max II Bigfoot, with a minimum deposit of $1, and walk away or a lil while, I'm sure you would have enough money for another build or at least a new set of wheels. Well, I know that I would pay to get behind the sticks of that beast! Congradulations on a successful build that gets nothing but high praises!!

I drove Noel's Max II with a 23 hp brigg's motor, red spring, 13 tooth output shaft sprockets ,and with 25 inch Mud Bugs on it. It was really impressive in thick mud. I can only imagine how well a 40 hp Kolier motor and 25 inch tires would perform on a Max II.

I drove past this a few times, wish I had a chance to take a closer look. Looked pretty neat.

I made a few changes over the Christmas break. I went to solid motor mounts. Switched to an electric fuel pump. Made some new grease zerk extensions for inner bearings.
I've also been talking to Roy @ Quality Drive Systems about changing the weights in the primary clutch.

Just for curiosity, today I threw on a set of 26" tires from a MaxIV, and went for a ride. Wow, I was impressed with them. I was climbing over snow covered logs with ease. Went through a few wet, muddy areas without spinning a tire. I definitely think more testing is in order.
                  It looks pretty cool too.

Wow Jim those 26's are ridiculous on there. I love it.

                      • I finally got around to making the full roll cage. I had a hard time picking a design that I thought looked good and fit the body. Uploaded several pictures to my gallery.[IMG][/IMG]

Also added some more weight back to the primary clutch blocks, now I'm all ready to test it out at Haspin this weekend.

                        • Hopefully you don't test the cage this weekend.

It looks really good Jim. I like the way all of the bars are angled in. They look good like that but that will also keep the cage from snagging on trees as easily as a cage that is more vertical. On the bars that go into the body in the original roll bar holes, did you tie the cage back into the seatbelt mount? Do you even have the stock seatbelt mount?

                          • Thanks Mike. I had a single roll bar on it, going through the body to the frame at the stock location. I tied this one to the frame reusing everything below the body. My seatbelt is actually bolted to the seat.[IMG][/IMG]

I bent up bars using 90 degree angles, but scrapped it because I didn't like the way it looked.
