  • 4-cylinder Max IV

I thought installing a 3-cylinder , Pontiac Fire fly motor , in a Max II was excessive , but , installing a 4-cylinder motor , in a Max IV , is even more extreme !
This was thought to be a Dodge Colt motor . any one know about this Max IV at the Humphrey, NY amphib , event ?

Hey Mudbug, this is Kevin Griffin's machine. He is a 6x6world member. I took this picture way back in 2001 so I don't really remember all of the details about the machine. Hey_Dan78 or Madmax500cc might be able to tell you a little more about it.

Dave, that 3 cyl suzuki engine has a lot going for it. Compact, lightweight, 50 hp at a 1000 cc. If you thought it was too much power, just retard the timing I was researching that engine when I found the briggs connections.

I would imagine you would be very happy with a 25 hp , motor in a max II !! Talk about power to weight ratio ! How hard was it to install the kolier , 25 hp motor , in your Max II tub ? I have a few friends that are considering this same modification in their Max II,s also .

I would like to say that there are some benifits to my 3 cylinder Pontiac.
I have loads of power, at low rpm as well as high rpm. I have lots of heat in winter time to keep my body and feet nice and toasty.
                Climbs hills like never before.
On roads (smooth) I can move along 3000 rpm, translates to 45 mph

                Down sides
Little heavy in rear for floating
Had to build frame stronger of course
Fuel economy - On 5 US gallons I have less than 3 hours (But a fun 3 hours)
Due to the size it makes it tough to work on the chains at the rear with out removing top of body
Does not have secondary start, once battery would die, you need a boost.

Am I sorry I have the 3 cylinder, nope
Power to fun ratio - WooHoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
