  • No Reverse. New Max 2 Owner. Please help

    Hi All,

I'm a new Max 2 owner as of today and new to the form as well. I picked up a 2005 Max 2 today and unfortunately did not think to test reverse in it. I put it in reverse and rev up and nothing. Basically feels like neutral. I have pulled the diamond pins and everything appears to be in order. I have also manually put it in reverse (I think) and nothing. In searching the forums, is the next step to do the brake band adjustment as posted by Bud a few years ago. Forward runs like a top, although left turns are a lot more difficult (must pull lever nearly all the way back with a lot of force) than right. Any help would be apprecaited.

It could be a band adjustment, straightening the linkage or as you checked the diamond shifter. Where are you located, perhaps a fellow member could stop by and take a look for you. I've done it several times for new members myself and had similar help when I first got started.

It sounds like you are NOT pulling back on the sticks. When you put a t-20 into reverse the sticks are FWD=brake PULLED BACK= wheels turning.
      Hope that helps.

I'm in Roanoke, VA. The buggyman may have the magic answer. I have not trieid pulling back on the sticks. I'll try that in a bit. That would be a lot more simple than everything else I've tried so far.

Haha yeah you gotta pull back in reverse to go backwards. Knowing how to drive it is half the battle.

Don't worry about it. Good thing Jim said something, I forget people havnt driven these before sometimes. When I was 18 I borrowed a buddies gsxr600 to get some stuff for work. When I was going to leave the hardware store I kept having the bike stall out on me as soon as I put it in gear. I was starting to get frustrated and a guy told me to put thekick stand up first. My old 78 cx500 didn't come with any of those fancy options and had the stranger not said anything I may have begun to start pulling fuel lines plugs and what not.

Thanks everyone. Pulling on the sticks worked like a charm. That all makes sense to me now.
