  • New engine and tire idea

I am thinking about putting a 20 horsepower Onan motor into my max2. right now it's in my 95 Toro garden tractor. It got about 450 hours on it. it has the same horizontal shaft and is about the same size as my 18 HP Briggs. looking for any ideas or things I should look out 4. The tractor has about the same rpm as my max so I don't think I will run into any issues there. I just believe that the Onan is a lot moe dependable a heavy duty then the Briggs. sorry I mean you Briggs lovers no disrespect Oh yeah and if I am wrong about Briggs please let me know. I just remember the old days and all the issues I use to have with them. The other thing is I found a company that makes 5 star aluminum rims with the 5 by 4 1/2 bolt pattern. I was gonna get them in a 12 inch so I can put 25 by 10 by 12 inch executioners on the max. as much as I've looked around I really haven't seen anyone with rims that differ too much from the same old factory rims. I am wondering why ?? am I overlooking something ? I know I will probly have to do a little " custom " bodywork work over the 2 front tires but I think it's about it. The way I figure I will have about a 1/2 between tires but I think it will be okay. Any thoughts on this please let me know. I really don't wanna make 1000 dollar mistake with my tires and rims.

    Thanks all

one thing you might consider is the extra weight those cast iron onans are pretty heavy just an idea.

Post up a link to the rim company.

12" rims will not ride as nice as the 25" tires on a 9" rim. You are losing 1 1/2" of squishability

You didn't give a lot of info, but I suspect you have the Vanguard in your machine (If it came with the briggs from the factory). These are a rock solid engine... I wouldn't bother with the swap. Not to mention your Toro would be useless! Keep the Briggs, and if you are done with the Toro, sell it on EBAY (they tend to bring pretty good money) and put that toward your rims/ tires

Go to a website called tidesunlimited.com than you go to ATV tiress than to the tire company Supergrip. All the way at the bottom of there page it says 5 star and Typhoon cast wheels. They have a few there that fit the John Deer HPX and the Kubota RTV. Thoes will fit according to Recreation Industries themselves. There a 5 lug by 4.5" they even have the 5 " recess needed for the max. Im almost ready to buy so I sure hope I have it right :-)
