  • Holy Cow! - Can't get the wheel off my Max!!

    Ok, here's the scenario:

I am trying to remove the tire on my Max II, I removed all the lugnuts & for some reason the rim just does not want to come off! - I tryed everything, tapped it with a hammer, tryed to pry it, tryed running the Max & doing turns & whatnot to jar it loose, It's like it's welded to the axle!! - This rim hasnt been on there forever, I did have it off last year.. Also the front tire on the other side came right off for me with no problem.. It is the front right side, I just cannot get the rim off for some reason & I did try for like 1/2hr.. Has anyone encountered a scenario like this? anyone know any fixes? any help i will much appreciate! - I just wanna get this rim off lol

Adding some penetrating oil will do wonders. Also, tapping with a hammer works best if you had some pressure pulling the pieces apart. You can try this - deflate your tire, then put some blocking behind it pressed up against the tub and the other side coming just a little over the rim (up against the rubber).. do this around as much tub surface area as possible. Then inflate the tire (if you wanted to have the full circumference, you could do a long bar across to the other tire). Then try tapping the rim again - watch out though, it'll be under some pressure this time.

*you can't hold me responsible if your tire comes off your rim :P

I use a 2x4 and hit the outer section of the rim in 3 opposite points . That usually frees it up.

And use anti seize when you put the rims on. (threads and centre ring)

dirt and sand gets wedged in between the studs and the mount holes, once it get compressed in there it makes it very hard to get tight fitting rims off. I had a heck of a time getting Mel's Max II rims off. I had to wiggle, tap, use a pry bar, and evenly move the rim forward in order to get rim inch it off.
