  • New Chains way too tight?

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 89 max two and got the axles back in it today. Putting the new chains on though is really really tough. I had a chain tool to pull them togethere and still couldn't get the chains to connect. Finally took the adjuster off and connected chain. Had to force roughly the roller adjuster back in. ( I bought roller style chain adjusters btw). Now the chain from the front left axle to the center axle is on. But it is really tight. It only moves up and down some. It is difficult to turn the axles togethere. Will over the first couple hours the chain stretch? And loosen up some. There was very little possibly of installing chains with adjusters on. I will have to remove the adjusters, install chain, and then reinstall adjusters. Any input or ideas?

And chain is correct length. 51 links. 52 links and it's to long and chains hit. 51 links and it's a tight as the cables the hold power lines up.

Have you tried a half link? Just a thought.

How would half a link be possible? For the chain to be complete it must use the small inside link with the larger outer link. Both together make one complete link. To use only half of that isn't possible I don't think? Is it? Master link won't fit on with a inner and outer link. It must be two inner links for it to secure. Inless there is a half link setup out there. If so I need to find it cause it will help.

I just searches half #50 roller link and found it. That idea should work. Thanks alot. Hopefully I can find some tomorrow somewhere.

Cool, glad to help. TSC has them. A few different bearing places around here also does.

102 total pins is the correct length. I suspect if you get 4-5 hours on them the streach will be enough to get the adjusters working properly. If you install a half link it ma have to be removed in a few hours. Good luck

The chains on a MaxII are fairly tight when they are new. They will stretch within the first couple hours, and may need adjustment again at around 10 hours.
The reason it seems strange to you is the roller tensioners take up more space at the "all the way off" adjustment position. The factory adjusters would barely touch the chain in this position.IMG_1072.jpgIMG_1071.jpg
Hope the pictures help to visualize this.
