  • Max IV chain question

I was riding over the weekend and two of the bolts holding the inner bearing flange came loose. As a result, the chain broke because the rear sproket and idler got out of alignment. I haven't had a chace to fully examine everything, but my guess is I should probably get a new length of chain at a minimum. What length should I get? Is it possible I may need some other parts for repair?

Rear chain 116 pitches, front chain 122 pitches, primary chain 52 pitches All chain is series 50.

Thanks, but looks like I may need to replace the sprocket as well...compared to the other side, it looks pretty worn. What do I risk running it with a worn sprocket? Also, whats the difference between the 50 and 530 chain? A local bike shop has a 110 link Marshall 530 chain for $39. I figure I could probably make two chains out of this one...

530 will work fine. sprocket damage and excessive wear can damage the new chain.

I'm looking at new chains and see that most are described by type x lenght. So for example, if I'm looking at a 530 x 52 chain - will that be just the right size? What exactly is the 52 number - links, pitches, inches? I have no clue...And do chains typically come with the connector links?
I've read Tsubaki is a good brand...looks like they come in a few different versions - QR and HSL? Is either one OK?

Old thread, but I don't see an answer...
Chain is defined as "pins", on the MaxIV jackshaft for example, the chain has 52pins in it once it is INSTALLED.
That's a length of chain with 50pins in it and two open holes that you will put a master link in (2pins), for a total of 52pins.
Most chains come with a matching master link.
