  • Max IV factory track machine with AquaTorques

Hey guys. I just added a Max IV factory track machine to my collection. It is an 02 with about every option. It has had the rubber tracks on its entire life and the owner never even put the rear plugs in it. I plan to ditch the factory rubber tracks and tires and mount my AquaTorques on it. My question is are others out there leaving the bearing support on when running big tires? It looks like there is a 3 inch spacer in there now so the tires clear the support bar. Also do I need to change the clutch spring out or gear on the T20 to work correctly with the 25 inch, heavier tires? This machine has the 25HP Kohler Command free air engine. Thanks in advance for the guidance.

Yes, this machine also has a factory roll bar and I intend to set it up for trail riding. Should be less painful for me on the next trail ride I attend.

    Keith.

You can simply unbolt the hub spacers and leave the bearing cages/supports and you'll be just fine with running the AquaTorques, or any tire for that matter. You don't have to change the gearing either, but if you want a little more low end grunt, you can simply swap the red driven clutch spring in, but that's totally up to you. The 25HP Kohler will have more than enough power to spin any tire you will put on it. Good luck with it, and let us know how it works out.

Thank you for the response. I was looking at the bearing support rail that ties all the extended support bearings together and it looked like I would need the spacers so the tires would clear it. Looks like All the axles would need to come out to remove it so it will be cool if everything clears with it in place.

Keith, I wouldn't run the hub spacers with tires, only if you are running tracks. You have to remove the axles if you want to remove the bearing cages/supports. The bearing cages/supports can be bolted and supported with the bearing support rail, and yes you're correct, it would have to be removed to use with the tires and no hub spacers.

The last time I called Recreatives I was told they were out of stock on the red spring. The forum member Whipper can make you two 13 tooth output shafts for your T-20. I have the 13 tooth output shaft sprockets on the T-20 of my Max IV and also the red spring on the T-20 clutch. This an outstanding option.

Recreatives has the red springs in stock. A few members just recently ordered them in.

OK, thanks guys. To summarize and please feel free to correct me, If I am to never run tracks on the Max IV but will run an aggressive larger tire, I should retain the third bearing and cages on each axle, remove the hub spacers and pull all the axles to remove the axle support bar from each side. Also install the red secondary clutch spring and if I still want a little more snap on the lower end contact Whipper about 13 tooth output shafts. Does this sound correct?

              Thanks again, Keith.

That sounds about right, Keith. Although, I believe you don't have to remove the axles to take the axle support bar off. I remember MaxIVMark removed the axle support bar without removing the axles to run just tires without tracks, so it looks like you just simply have to unbolt a few things, so it should be a really simple task. I think you'll really like that red spring and that's just about everything you'll need to do to the machine, especially with that big Kohler 25HP engine.

Cool, sounds like I will be up and running with tires in no time flat. I will post some pictures as soon as I get rid of the green camo paint job the previous owner sprayed it with. What compels people to paint over the plastic on these machines still mystifies me. This machine is super clean. not garage kept never driven clean but it has all the HD options and was never used in deep water. It was stored in an open front shed and looks to have never really been cleaned, but never got real dirty either. When I pulled the floor pans the chains were perfect and tight and look to be in the middle of the adjustment slots and CLEAN. No water has ever sat in the tub and everything was bright and shiny. The windshield was in the corner and was never used. The Camo top was folded up in a corner also. Warn winch looks to never have been unspooled. The seatbelt racks were removed when new and sitting with the top. The roll bar is black and scratch free. Did I mention it was spray painted green. Now to find someone who wants some factory tracks, spacers wheels and tires. With the paint stripped off it will really be a nice machine to test the AquaTorques on.

Probably should throw a new belt on. Any suggestions?

                  Keith.

And I'd be interested in the bearing cages should you decide not to use them...
                      Thanks,

That's a good question. I keep going back and forth about being able to track the Max again some day. But the reality is I have the Bigfoot with Adair tracks. The tracks will need to go as a package. 21 inch tires and wheels, 3 inch spacers, the bearing support rail and of coarse the tracks. I would like to keep the bearing extensions. I will PM you with pictures when I get everything removed this weekend or next then we can discuss price.

                        Keith.

Hi Keith, I look forward to a water speed review/video of the Max IV with the 'Torques. I've been wanting to try them on a IV but just haven't got to it. I was surprised at the water speed you had on your Bigfoot with the 'Torques at the 6x6 ride. I thought they were plenty fast for a super aggressive mud tire. They might even be faster on the Max.
