maxII tire tread

i'm curious why the tire tread on the max in my eyes appears to be pointing in the backwards direction. I realized this as I got completely buried in the mud this week. Any thoughts?

The tires run backwards to make your machine swim.you could turn them around and get a little better traction but you want go any where in water.
