  • Briggs 23hp in MaxII

Hi to all, I just put a new Briggs 23 hp twin in my maxII (cut out most of the top shell for it to fit and have air circulation..I'll make a cover from expanded alum. when done) I fabricated me some exhaust pipe and used the existing muffler that is mounted underneath...getting backfire when letting off throttle..( I think, from the elbows etc. that I used ) So, I'm now thinking about a new muffler ?? Having muffler mounted inside and routing exhaust to outside...Has anyone performed this or know of any pics posted for some ideas.....thanks

The newer Max II has this as an option when ordered from RI so they might have a kit to change to the interal exhaust. I also just had an exhaust made for mine if you look into the gallery the picture is posted.

The Briggs 23 HP is a great motor. got one in my Argo. Mine and several other newish machines had similar issues with back firing, and excess heat build-up under the hood. Upon checking the valve adjustment (finally) I determined my valves were way out of adjustment. After a quick adjustment my backfiring went away and the engine no longer puts off excessive heat. I spoke with a rep from Briggs and this has been a common problem.
