  • just got a max ll, have some questions???

Ok so Sunday night my dad and I picked up an old max ll. It's in pretty good condition body wise but needs some work. It's mostly sat in the PO's garage for the last 6 year's. It has a 13hp Honda clone enginecin it now but came with the old Briggs horizontally opposed twin that needs a rebuild. We are going to go through it this weekend to adjust the linkages and check the pins and diamond plates. Does anybody have a pic showing which line the fuel comes out of on the tank. There is a hose in the middle near the top that is plugged up and we believe it had a fuel pump and fuel came out of here??? It looks like a bad attempt at a gravity fed setup from the line on the right that goes through a fuel filter and continues on. From what I have read I think this was the original tank drain??? We are going to fix this and drain the tank this weekend as it cloggs up the filter and only runs for as much fuel is in the filter. Anybody have pics of how this is supposed to go??? Got this thing for 1500 bucks and before the filter clogged it was great!!! The serial number is 7126, what year would this be??? 84-85??? Got this to replace our Kawasaki mule 550 2wd that finally scrapped out on us and this is a million times better already. Gonna rob the seat out of the mule for the max. The first owner (bought it from second) put a 1/8 inch thick skid plate the whole way down and up the front and back. Also need the drain plugs and need to fix some small holes before we drive er in the pond!!! Gotta adjust the cables cuz she won't go into reverse. Sorry for the long thread

Call up Recreatives with the serial number and they'll tell you all the information on your machine. Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511 It looks really good and with a little bit of work I'm sure you'll be hitting the trails very soon. Good luck with it.

Welcome to 6x6 world mad max, the fuel line to the motor comes from mid tank location, and there should be a drain plug on the right bottom. Always good to start with the simple things, like good fuel supply. some have installed a bilge pump, just to be on the safe side. I like the pics! Looks like a good max to bring back to life.

Thanks so far guys!!! Yes, the line is currently hooked up to the drain plug. Will a universal electric fuel pump work??? I've read of an 85 on here at 7400-ish serial # was an 85 so I think this is an 84-85??? Still, looks better than my 95 Suzuki king quad lol.

Have you looked over the chains carefully? To correctly adjust them you will need jack the machine up so that all wheels are off the ground. As for the reverse issue, did you know that you need to pull the drive levels back to engage tranny for reverse? also when driving on steep inclines push the drive lever forward to fully engage tranny, otherwise you will only get so far and the tranny will start slipping. When you have the wheels off the ground you could also check the bearings. See if they are worn and loose. Hope this helps.
