  • Mudd Ox Ripsaw Track??

Anyone running the Mudd Ox Ripsaw track?? How does it perform?

  • #2
Matt gave me a set to play with. What snow we did get they worked great. The most snow that I got to play in was about 2 feet, and they just walked right though that. I am going to try them out in the water and see how they do. I do know that they turn better than my other tracks. Hope this helps PA Jeep. Cougar

Cougar, post some pics of the track when you get a chance. What's new about it?

I just received and put on a set of the Adair tracks on my Ox. I expect I will be selling my 20 inch rubber ripsaw tracks.

I have a set, good floatation, tons of traction. So far only use on snow has been spring rotten snow including some steep hills and they did great. With the taller lug and aggressive ripsaw tread pattern, they climb well and seem very "grippy". I think they'll be great in really cold/icy conditions- the rubber lugs have many small "sipes" and agressive edges that should hold on a lot better in slippery conditions, but I haven't really tested that out yet. Being a rubber snowmachine "utility" track, they are taylor-made for winter conditions, I would think. We'll see but so far so good.

AlaskaDH please give a report on the Adair performance when you get some time with them.

Once you get a taste of the Adair tracks you won't want to run any other track.

I owned a Mudd-Ox for six months with the Adair tracks and these tracks turn a whole lot easier than the rawhide tires do that came on the Mudd-Ox. I sold it to buy a smaller 6x6 and now own an Argo Frontier with the Adair tracks. The tires that come on the new Argo's are not as aggressive as the rawhide tires and the Adair tracks slide side to side 50 % easier than these tires do. My three friends run the Adair tracks and they are awesome in the mud. We have'nt gotten stuck at any atv park or in any mud condition. The UHMW material that the Adair tracks are made of are lighter, cost a lot less, and are easier to maintain than the heavier rubber Mudd-Ox tracks. I called the Mudd-Ox dealer in Alaska and he's now bought three sets of the Adair tracks to install on his customers Mudd-Ox 8x8's. What does that tell you?

Alaska DH has the original rubber chevron Mudd-Ox 20" tracks not the ripsaw tracks. the ripsaw tracks are about 1/2-1/3 less in weight then the rubber chevron tracks. they seem to work well in snow but we don't have any mud experience yet as the snow is just now melting. The adair tracks work well in alaska summer conditions and have even performed quite well in packed snow conditions. The only concern I have with them so far is they seem to be experiencing some significant mushrooming of the grousers due to the rocky conditions we have here between mud areas. There is a place for all three types of tracks and no one set appears to be the perfect set at this time.

Thanks for the response. I have the ripsaw and like the snow and mudd performance so far. Matt told me they don't swim well. I'm thinking about the Adair setup or chevron Ox tracks for summer swimming and the ripsaw in the winter. My Ox is one of the turned up diesels with low gears so I'm concerned about adair durability at my power level. What do you think? Do you have any Adairs on a turned up diesel?

Akexpress is right, I have the 20 inch chevron. I ran the tracks one time during the fall on a moose hunt and was amazed at the swamp and mud that it went through, but the rocky ground was hard on the metal tire guides that are on my track and some were bent a bit. I was not able to run it in the snow this year.

I took the Ox out last week with the Adair tracks, to a power line trail at Point McKenzie and got into some mud, muskeg and swamp, but there was nothing there that gave it a challenge. I need a little more snow melt to get it out in some good mud and swamp and see just how well they perform.

we have had all three tracks designs on a very turned up diesel and that may be why we are seeing the mushrooming of the adair tracks. We also have seen a few bent keeper bolts on the new ripsaw tracks. This is probably due to the track being about the same thickness but the keepers dont go thru the spring steel or outer plates like on the chevron tracks. It will be easy to fix by just cutting the bolts down a bit.

From your experience of running both the Mudd-Ox chevron tracks and the Adair tracks on your Mudd-Ox , which track is easier to turn left or right?

thats an easy question 14" versus 20" and probably half the weight the adair will win that contest. Deep snow the chevron will out perform. the big question in my mind is the long term durabilty. Alaskadiehard has a special set of chevron tracks that have all metal keepers, one of only two sets in Alaska.
