  • ditch the hardtop, remove the roll bar, replace the heavy steel fuel tank.w/poly. Odyssey 925 battery, lighter flooboards. And I'm assuming you already run with the wheel spacers on so the wheels are farther out. Move your winch into the machine until you need it. You should drive the sticks from the back(reaching over the cowling) when entering the water if you're concerned, or back- in, you'll already be in the back to operate the kicker. You could even leave the cowling off if the machine (canvas-top). Doing some of this would make it more like an argo anyway, and for pete's sake don't do anything that will make you top-heavy, especially if your wheelbase is narrow. Remember an Argo isn't certified amphibious with a roll-bar. Keep all supplies out of the machine and in a floating trailer if you have one. You can do things to make any machine lighter. You could even remove the rear chains. Just don't operate it in such a front-heavy, top-heavy manner. First time I saw the aluminum cabs I thought "great for overland travel in -40 conditions but definitely not a good idea in the water.

sorry to hear that.......... just your very first post stated that there would be pics and more to come so we all have been waiting for the action shots..
I don't wish any missfortune on anyone here either, and I am also looking to see how it turns out. Because I drive a heavy diesel hydro predator also.

                    • Ok i've decided not to go with the dual wheels. I am much too afraid that it will put too much strain on the machine (there are a lot of old stumps lying around) and at this stage i want to reduce my financial loss (which is huge because i lost some valuable equipment when the titanic sank), and not increase it. I wanted to use some kind of float possibly made of plastic and I got some confirmation from someone who used pipes, so I will use pvc pipes instead. A 4 inch pipe displaces 2.7 pounds for each foot length. A six inch pipe displaces 5.6 pounds for each foot length and an 8 inch pipe even more. Last night i constructed a rectangular shaped structure ('pontoon') made out of a 4 inch diameter PVC pipe. The perimeter (or total length) covered by the pipe was 30 feet, so it should displace 81 pounds. It was bounded to the sides, front and back of the atv (the atv sans any equipment), just below where the water line is. I used a ratchet strap to hold it firmly agains the body of the ox (sounds like dialog from allo allo). In the water the ox wasn't bobbing that much from side to side like it did without the pipe, and i tried to rock it to and fro, it moved, but it was stable, albeit in salt water (in freshwater it might not be that buoyant). I'm going to build another one using 6 inch pipe covering the same perimeter, that should displace 168 pounds. An eight inch diameter pipe is available, but, it's on the very heavy side. The 6 incher is no lightweight either. I'm having a structure built for the six inch pipe that is more permanent and can hold it against the frame of body of the ATV.
I figure if matt comes through with the flotation kit (which displaces 360 pounds) for the front, along with the 6 inch pipe, i could potentially displace 528 pounds. If the 6 inch pipe works, i'll get it filled with marine grade foam, so that if it leaks, the water will have no where to go..If i can get a camera i'll post some pics.

I wonder if a person could make inflatable pontoons like on a zodiac boat it would be lite and when you get to the bush just deflate them and tuck them in some kind of holder.
