  • scrambler i need advice

So im looking at buying a scramble. I don't know much about them. I know it doesn't have reverse and the motor he is selling with it is a snowmobile motor and he say this machine doesn't have a tyranny just a clutch system. He wants 300 for it. Is this a wise move or no.

Unless you really really really want a tinker toy, look for a Max,Argo or Hustler. They were and are the latest made machines,so parts are readily available. If the clutches havent been redone on the Scrambler,it wont take long to burn them up with the 2-stroke.There are better more useable machines out there, you usually get what you pay for on something like this.

Scramblers are not a utility machine, They are more like a 1962 Jag XKE. Pleasant to look at, lots of effort to keep running well, nice to drive when running well. a 4 stroke 16 hp is probably the limit for original transmission although the factory did produce a unit with a 340cc two stroke for racing. Converting them to a T-20 or Argo transmission is possible, but allot of work. Unless the body and chassis components are in good condition i would probably pass. I own 4 of them, 2 originals ,one with a t-20 70 Hp sled engine and a 18Hp Argo trans (project) conversion.
