  • Jiger Versatrek

Just picked up a Jiger Versatrek. Unsure on the year. Mostly complete. Serial number is hard to read. Has the original Hirth 246 with what appears to be a custom dual carb setup. Not sure why this was done. I'm not sure what my plans are with it. Part of me would like to keep it original but the other part of me wants something reliable. The guy I got it from said he drove it around a little. It does run with some gas down the carb. Unknown on the hydro's.

    Here are some pics

A very cool vintage AATV.......the later model Jiger with hydrostatic drive. Here's the best site on the net for Jigers. You'll find most if not all of your answers here:

Thanks, after thinking about this project more, I think I will be doing a transplant with a CVT setup. What HP motor should I look for? I was thinking 10-12hp. I don't need it to go fast and I know I will be loosing reverse by doing this. Do I really need it?

I personally would keep it original, and yes you would absolutely need reverse. A restoration to stock condition will save you lots of headaches and money in a machine like this. Just my opinion, but whatever you decide to do we'll all try out best to help you along.

Now this is where it gets fun. Find yourself an Attex, Hustler, or Max since they have the widely used T-20 transmission (that also has reverse). These vehicles can be found at a good price, under $1000 and sometimes even much less depending on the deals that come up. These would be a much better choice for a trail machine and you can expect them to be made into very reliable rigs without very much work. The Jiger is cool and restoring it to it's original condition would be best, I feel. A more stout machine will give you fewer headaches, more fun, and less time and money that you'd have to put into building it. Then once you've done that and get the itch to do more you can do the Jiger. Or while you're looking for a deal to pop up start the Jiger restoration. Those Jigers are cool machines and they're truly AATV history since they're the first production AATV ever made and the one you have is in great shape to restore......you don't see them like that all that often. What area of the country are you in? We can send some Craigslist deals your way if anything pops up.

Great find there, I redid a versa a couple of years ago and loved it (rip) It looks like you have it all there, so run it like it is if you can. maybe a little clean up if you like. The intire engine and hydros will come out in one unit and makeis it super easy to work on. These are very lite in comparson to any argo or max. I think they are around 450 lbs! you could change the driveline with relative ease but something that good of shape it would be a better candidate for restoration. good luck and oh ya, you will definately want reverse.

Ok, I will plan on keeping the Jiger original. Right now it's at the bottom of a long list of projects unfortunately. I will try and get the motor running to test the hydros. I would like to find a newer one sometime. I am in Minnesota and more than willing to travel. I will keep an eye out for something.

Good to hear that. There are quite a few deals on AATVs out your way, so be sure to keep an eye out on the Ebay, Craigslist For Sale section of 6X6World. If I see any really great deals I'll let you know.

Glad to help. It's always nice to know that an AATV is going to a good home and someone who appreciates them is getting a good deal.

                            My Jiger with Briggs 8HP

How is your rebuild going? If you changed the drive system I could really use the parts you don't need. Here is a test drive from a few days ago here in Windsor Ontario Canada...good luck.
