Looks like it almost has the torque of the 14hp and 16hp

Numbers aside I help a friend put that Motor on a snow blower attachment in place of a gas 13hp to unify the types of fuel he needed to carry. We stepped up the gear ratio to regain the RPM and the Torque seemed relentless. Were it would bog down on icy snow or tree branches with gas it now bakes threw it with the diesel but gas starts easier in the cold.

So..... The project is under way, but I'm not allowed to claim fame for any of it :P The wife wants to see this through by herself so I'm gonna sit tight on this one and wait for her to make a post.

Thanks for the info... I've passed it along..

If the ladies I knew wanted to put a diesel motor in an AATV you would need to rush me over to the trauma unit because I would be in the state of shock!

Thank you all for the information. This project is the first I've ever taken on, so I have a lot to learn, some of which I have learnt from beeman watching his builds, the rest I will need to research and this site seems like it will be a great help.

Currently, I have just gutted it to fix the body and frame, so its still a long way from running again.

            Anyways, thanks agian.

Hey Beelady, good to have you here. I look forward to seeing the buildup and the final product. That should be a cool 6x6. Just keep Beeman in line and the swap should go smoothly

So I just wanted to update a few things on how this is going. I have ordered and received the new CVT for the desiel engine I bought. So for the most part the purchasing is done, hopefully. I have run into a few issues to consider, with the whole fit with the new engine and such. Its wider then the orginal so the CVT and transmission do not line up with the original design, I'm working out idea's on this.

I have also been attempting to fix the small hole in the body by creating a acetone/PVC mixture out of spare chips I have from the body. This was going well until someone (Beeman) left it open to air and it hardened. But as a saving grace for him he is helping to create a second paste.

The weather is not cooperating right now, since we don't have a garage as of yet, so the snow we just received and the cold wind has slowed progress to a stand still. Unlike Beeman my project is stuck outside so I have to work around the weather right now until we get the garage built.

As it stands to date the cat is stipped of most parts, awaiting the body fix, then i get to start the fun stuff of making everything fit.

                  Cheers!

What is this and where can I get one?

So working away slowly on this but I have come across a broken part, I don't know what its called, or where I can find one, any help would be much appreciated. Its the peice holding the axle against the frame, the silver thing.

Well this is something I am seriously considering for my Muskateer.

The unkown 12HP engine could easily be replaced by the diesel engine. I feel that motor is an ideal unit that princess auto sells.

I thought about these engines engine, diesel engine manufacturer and engine, diesel engine supplier--China Shanghai Bronco Electric Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. though it seems they are light on HP.

As I am converting my full size 90 Bronco to a 7.3 IDI turbo intercooled diesel, It would be simpler to carry 1 fuel for my ATV thus the desire to convert to diesel as the fellow in this thread.

I do like the suggestion of tear down and inspection of the engine prior to installation, makes for assurances and piece of mind.

This would have to be put to the GF for approval but in all likely hood she would say YA HA!

I'll be watching this thread to see how it goes, clutch tuning etc.

I was thinking of a small aux trans after the clutch to provide a taller gear for fire road etc.

[QUOTE=Bw6 ] Hi Beeman, I've looking at that Princess Auto 10 hp diesel engine for quite a while $599.00 great price. 10 hp @ 3600 rpm, 1" keyed shaft, air cooled, 4 stroke, 110 lbs. My investigation showed that is would be equal to a 14 hp. gas engine in performance. I understand that it is a copy of the famous Yanmar engine. Here is a link to a guy that put it in a Geo Metro. [ QUOTE]

                        Bw6 ,

I had my doubts that this little 10 hp diesel could be of much use in an amphib that weighs 900-1000 pounds , but , after reading all the imformation on the conversion in the Geo Metro , I,m a BIG believer now ! If you are not into speed , but , into low speed mud slogging , this diesel motor would make an exellent choice !
