Ok... I found my Trail Boss will plow up snow, and sit on top when the snow is over 12". I'm sure tracks would help this, but the sleds come out when the snow is flying now!

Those tracks look great, but my sleds made it through without a problem... any deeper, and I probably wouldn't have done so well. I have a feeling those tracks cost well more then my Trail Boss... lol!
At a museum I saw an old snow cat with 'home made' tracks. They looked like old tire treads linking wood cut to surround the tires. Could be a fun project.

Ed, I never got a chance to use the factory rubber tracks in the snow. I am told they work very well though. Maybe another member who has a Max IV with factory tracks can post or direct you to a video. My Max has the 25HP Kohler Command engine. It works well for me but I would love to replace it with a Kohler 29HP EFI air cooled engine. Just a matter of time.

The factory Camoplast tracks worked awsome in the snow. I used it up at the cabin in Canada with about 2 feet of snow...oops I mean 60cmIt was soft and you could see the belly of the machine drag but never even close to getting stuck. They went more places than I could have with my snowmobile, you could actually stop on top of the powder and not dig in when you go to take off again. I would say the rubber tracks rob about 20% of the power just to turn them. I noticed no loss of power with the Adair chain style tracks but I have had to adjust the tension every 5-8 hours of riding.
Here is video of the factory rubber ones.
and here is a ride with the 16.5" Adair tracks
