  • first aatv project.68 terra tiger

i have been looking for and amphibious project for a few months now and finally found one super cheap. it has a curtiss-wright kec-340 in it. it came with six of the little lawnmower type turf tires but i plan on replacing those once i get the mechanicals all sorted out. i have already started getting it apart and getting things freed up. really looking forward to getting it going.

Hope it really turns out to be the machine you want it to be.Even with the best restoration, this particular machine has its share of drawbacks,But good luck in your project anyway.

terra tigers r fun just got mine up and going (new springs, new belt) i put a 399cc rotax in mine.. moves out real nice. If you have clutches slipping when u get urs running and driving put crap i have to find the part # again. they are 230# springs part # DWC-218NO-12 from Diamond Spring in Glenshaw PA 1-800-424-0500
If it don't have 6 wheels and floats.. isn't any good to me. Have you ever tried floating a 4 wheeler across a pond... Doesn't work very well does it?

ok, i got the engine out and took the flywheel off and cleaned up all the ignition system then adjusted the points. still wouldnt fire so i cleaned the mounting bosses for the coils and it fired right up and tried to walk away from me on the ground. flipped it over to try to remove some of the leaves and other garbage out of it, looks good underneath so far. next big item is to replace the chains. previous owner took them all off and threw them away. anybody know how many feet of the #41 chain i need? only thing left to do today is sit in it on temporary seat and make engine noises!

4 wheel Chains are #40 X 133 links plus a master and half link and 2 clutch to jackshaft cahains #40 X 75 links plus master. & 2 main drive chains from jackshaft to front sprocket are #50 X45 links plus master. Use good chain such as Diamond USA. Cheap import chain don't last!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the info on the chains, i did a little quick and dirty measuring and ordered 3 boxes of good roller chain through the company my dad works for so i got a smokin deal. i started cutting out the new hubs today at work out of 3/8" plate to put new wheels on the front. i have a fuel tank from an old jet ski and i think it may work well. if all goes well i may get to do a real halfass testdrive this weekend.

tore into one of the old jet skis i have laying around today after work to get the fuel tank. fits pretty darn good i think. gonna be secured with the rubber hold down straps from the ski. i even got to use the filler hose on the stock tiger fuel filler neck. while i was in there i got the rectifier so now ill be able to run my lights. i think the carb may even work with just a touch of enginuity. i love being able to recycle parts! im off now to take this thing to the carwash to pressure wash it out so i can clean some things up and do some painting this weekend

so i havent had much time to work on the tiger because i got burnt real bad at work this past week but i have managed to get out and tinker a little bit. i plumbed up the fuel lines and filler neck and installed the carb off a jet ski and got the engine running pretty good. still need to tidy up the lines and secure the tank. the chains are taking longer to get here than i would like but thats ok because i need to get my real pressure washer out and blast the inside of this thing clean then do some painting. the stupid car wash in our town has about as much pressure as my garden hose. thinking about making a hood out of aluminum. i have a large sheet and a friend of mine has a round top louver press so i could make it pretty slickDSC01168.jpgDSC01164.jpgDSC01166.jpg

just goofing off a little today and made a hood out of a corugated plastic so i dont have to see the big hole in front. also picked up a couple of seat bottoms out of a school bus that my friend picked up. i think they should work fine with just a little bit of ingenuity.
