This is a later model Scrambler....probably a mid 1970's I'm guessing. It's the 4 seat version and the engine is a Tecumseh OH160 16HP. These engines were commonly used in AATVs such as the Scrambler, Attex, Max, Argo, Swamp Fox, and others. The later model Scramblers had a stronger clutch steering system than the older models with lower horsepower engines. The Tecumseh you have now is a great engine, but the Walboro carburetors can be unreliable when they get older. You could always sell the engine parts and use that money toward a new Briggs and Stratton 16HP Vanguard. Welcome to the 6X6World!

As much as I like the Briggs, I am unsure if that would be the right choice of engine for this machine. There are a lot of Honda clone engines on the market that are a single cylinder 16hp engine. They can be had new for several blunders dollars. I love the Briggs, but I think it is a little over kill for a scrambler, maybe I am wrong here, but a lot of members seem to have good luck with clone engines in similar machines.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

There is insufficient space for the Briggs vanguard without loosing the rear seat a good solution would be to use a large Honda or clone single. I have a Marc 12 with a 12 hp Tecumseh engine that performs very well.

We had a dual bench with the 16Tec ohv with reverse and wish we had it back. That was a nice machine just kept losing the left rear tires.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
          Joe Camel never does that.

            Jim,

The reverse unit was actually just an electric motor (like a starter motor) with a gear on it that spun a larger diameter gear on the jackshaft backwards, right?

The reverse unit is a starter motor, my one is not working. Im looking for a new one but i dont really know how to star looking. The starter motor does not have some sticker with information.
I also attached a picture where the reverse goes jpswift1.

Does any one could help me???

I also saw the Lifan Engine, 15 hp....Opinions
