I got really stuck a couple weeks ago, almost put the COOT over a steep bank when I slid off a trail as I was coming down a steep grade. I ended up half on the trail, half off and the more I tried to get back on the trail the farther down the bank I got. It finally tied the COOT to a tree so it couldn't go down over the bank, walked home,( over a mile), got my Trackster and my son, and after an hour of winching and pulling, we got it back up on the trail. I decided I wasn't going to go thru that again, so I bought a 3000# winch and installed it on the COOT. Al least now I'll have a better chance of getting out of that kind of situation if it happens again.
While I was in the fabricating mood, I went ahead and installed my prop drive on the COOT. I made up a u-joint assembly from parts I picked up at Tractor Supply. For the shaft, I used a piece of 3/4" chrome shafting out of a hydraulic cylinder, welded that to half of the u-joint, the other end of the joint attaches to the output of the torque transmitter. I bolted a plate on the inside of the tub, on the other side I mounted a flanged bearing to support the prop shaft. the prop I have is a couple inches bigger than the stock prop, and has more pitch, so it should move a little more water. The prop comes off easily so I don't have to have it on when I'm not in the water. All I need now is some open water to try it out, everything is frozen over now. Just thought I'd share...
