Restoration of a Terra Tiger

I fell of the wagon for awhile, but I'm back! Work and a back injury put me out for awhile.
I finally got off my butt, cleaned the garage and put the Tiger in there.
So far I've cleaned out the leaves and crap from the inside, peeled the stickers, removed the lights and license plates. It had a fan for cooling the drive system, but I took that out too. It didn't seem to be doing anything anyway. I might put a different fan back in it with ducting to the clutch cups.
I'm on the prowl (pun) for a new engine. It has a JLO 395, but I want a 4 stroke since the 395 will remove your teeth from vibration

This project is a little different since I'm licensing it for the street. It has plates and registration so it was legal at one point. I want to make it legal just to be able to drive it down my street. Anyone else have a street legal 6 or 8 amphib?

Should be a fun project. It looks to be in pretty good shape. Do all of the tires hold air? As for registration, there are a couple of members who have their ATVs registered / tagged.

I wonder how someone got it street legal, is there anything different about it (changed). Up here in ontario there is no way that it would be allowed. But would be super cool doing a drive-thru mcdonalds or turing down to the local beer strore.

Yes, the tires hold air. I bent one of the rims when I rolled it, but I have 4 brand new spares for it I hope to get it legal. Not a lot of people around here are familiar with AATV's. I should be able to go to the DMV and transfer the title and get new stickers without a problem, but these dealings make me nervous.

Update:
Finally got the title transferred. No problem. I have new stickers! I'm certain that I'm the only kid on my block with a street legal AATV!!!!
I decided to redo all of the wiring, replace the engine, and maybe upgrade the wheels and tires. I might need to make a windscreen and put side mirrors on to comply with the laws.
I'm slow to do just about everything, but I'll update here with pictures and notes as I make progress.

I won't say that my Argo is exactly "street legal" hovever, it does have it's Hull Identification Number (HIN) and is regestered in Ohio as a watercraft. The #'s are somewhat obscured by camo background,rollcage and a good coat of mud but can be seen if ya look real close



The ATV registration was the red sticker on back of machine but is now the little liscence plate



As I say,not really "legal" however, Ohio is quite "ATV friendly" provided one is not "asking for trouble". In most rural communities there are generally no questions asked when accessing public roads,but as I said one must be sensible.

Ordered an off brand 15 horse with electric start and a new driven clutch. I hope I got the right clutch... I got really good deals on both so I'll be ok if it isn't.
Well, I won't be going on the street much, but with a license plate and insurance I should be able to go pretty much anywhere I want. I think running to the corner store will be sooooooo cool

I'm thinking of registering this thing as a boat too. I'm planning on installing a small trolling motor and an extra battery. There is a small bay near here that has drastic water level changes when the tides come in and out. This vehicle will NEVER get stuck! I have a winch I'm going to carry inside that can be quickly bolted to it if I ever need it.
When the new stuff arrives I'll post pictures.

A question for any pro that's reading this: The steering on this machine is weird. I have the manual printed out, but the drawings aren't the best. Does anyone have detailed pictures or drawing of the steering system?

Also, I almost tore the engine and hydraulic drive out of my lawn tractor to drive the Terra Tiger because it doesn't have reverse. After thinking about it, I don't want to modify this thing too much (and it's a lot of work), but it would be cool. Maybe I'll find a dead machine and try it out. Anyone else do something like that?

To my inexperienced eye, the body looks to be in really good shape. Yup, it would be cool to bust off into a drive through, even more fun to hit a Sonic, and watch them hunt a place to hang the tray. Think I would stay away from the bars though, I'm fairly certain the cops would give you some unwanted attention, and lots of it.
