  • Scrambler disassembly/restoration

I picked up the Ebay Scrambler yesterday. I powerwashed/steam cleaned it and would like to start the disassembly process.

The engine is not original and not mounted correctly so I want to get thet out of there. Does anyone know if I can remove the engine and drive system as a unit? I'm not seeing an obvious way of pulling the whole assembly out.

I don't know what model it is. There are not any ID plates on it. The rear doesn't have an engine cover that opens like some I have seen.

I assume you are not removing the top half of the body. The engine and trans can be removed as one piece, depending on what engine is installed. 4 bolts hold it in. There is two bolts that attach to the side of the engine /trans subframe and a "u" bracket mounted to the floor behind the rear axle bearing support. The 2 front bolts are attached to the jack shaft side plates. It will be easier the remove the 2 side Y shaped supports for jack shaft and then remove thejackshaft to allow everything to move foward to lift it out of the tub.

The serial number is located on the steering wheel cross support or the fuel tank support if the fuel tank is in the front.

Steering wheel, spring loaded axles, no electric reverse, Bucket seat in front, 3 lug with the soda can style hub, the color is a repaint but it appears to have been yellow.

                    scrambler

I believe that is a scrambler 1000 do your self a favor,,the clutches on the axles.. drill 3/8" holes opposite each other on clutch plate, put nuts and bolts in , so axle clutches don't slip anymore...

I'm curios as to what the spring-loaded axles do?

The early Scramblers have spring loaded axle clutches. If you are removing the axles to replace the bearings do yourself a favor and remove the springs and weld the sprockets to the clutch plates.

It almost looks like an Attex yellow in the photos I saw
Why do we waste tax money on bridges and roads when we can all just drive AATVs

                              Scrambler

It is not worth the effort to try and pull the two parts as one. Quite a bit of weight there. I am in the process of a full retoration on one of these. The engine alone is about 75 pounds and the tranny is another 75. Seperations is your best bet. If you ned any help let me know. I have alot of photo's of the tranny rebuild axles ect..
