Coots and Hoots

Anyone have a Coot2? or a Hoot with the new bigger engine? Just looking for feedback. I didn't realize there was a coot2 till the other night and happened to come across them on youtube. I also thought that the hoot had become extinct but found they are being made by a new company in North Carolina and they have a bigger engine in them now.

Coot2 is extinct now, they cranked up in 2006 and produced a few machines then ceased production. There was a man in Iowa, if I recall, who had a used one advertised on C.L, a few months back.

Thanks for the Coot2 info Noel. I called the Hoot website # today and message says office is closed? What happened to knox outdoor products? As I do see Hoots advertised from a company in N. Carolina called growler motorsports.

Here is some additional info regarding the Coot2:
It is powered by a 27hp engine coupled to a 3600 psi oil pump and the Coot2 has 4 hyd wheel motors (.One for each tire) The steering is with a hyd ram in front for the front wheels and one in the rear for the rear tires. The Coot2 is no longer built, (there were 66 of them built) but a few come up for sale every now and then.
Production numbers for the original Coot are harder to peg. Some sources place production as low as 1200 and as high as 3600.
About half were the four wheel steer version. Most were powered by a 12hp Tecumseh. The original Coot had an Apex transmission used in a handful of atvs. The Apex had a low gear, high gear, neutral and reverse.

A couple years ago I answered a Craig's list ad. I was told it was an articulated Coot golf maintenance cart. It had a cab for the bench seat, with the engine behind the seat, and the back was a box for carrying stuff. There was power to the front and back wheels. Told him I'd be there in 20 minutes and by the time I got there he sold it for $1200.

Could be. The guy said it was a Coot, and since I'd never seen anything like it I believed him. When I tried looking up Coots I didn't see anything that looked like it, but I knew it was old so I figured they didn't make that style anymore.

Here is an update for you hoot fans. I sent an email off to the new Hoot ATV company and here is the response. The new hoots will feature a 570cc 18hp Briggs & Stratton Vanguard V-Twin.



We should be in production in about 4 months. Keep in touch.

Hoot Status Update

Here is the latest status on the New Hoot 6x6.

Thanks for your interest in the Hoot. At the present time we are in the
process of having a 3rd party produce the Hoot & will not be available until
early next year (2014). I know you will love the Hoot when it is ready. I will let
you know.

Hey new here and figured I'd post around here somewhere but I just contacted the new manufacturers of the Hoot and they said their revised model would be in production in a couple weeks as of a week ago. Pretty excited seeing as I've wanted one of these things since they first came out.

I hope they do make it back into production. I've never driven a Hoot but they seem interesting, maybe geared a bit high from what those who have.

I think as long as they keep their price point lower than the argo or max 6x6's then it should go over pretty well. It seemed like if the other brands of 6x6's were just a little more than you needed then that was exactly what you needed. I do like the fact that here in Wisconsin I think you can register bit for use on public trails because of its narrow width. I wouldn't mind that... especially up north where you can ride from lake to lake.
