Not sure of the original retail, but it was probably less than $2000. The transmissions do not hold up to the abuse they ask for. The maximum tire size is about the size of roller skates. I would say the current average trading price is about $500. Save yourself the poor investment. A 80's or 90's Max II could be had for that price in good condition if your patient.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

$3000 is insane, $2200 is crazy, so like Drew said, $500 sounds like what it should be around. The approach angle of these machines is horrible and the "roller skate" sized tires (LOL) don't do much at all for ride quality or mudding capability. I'd also highly suggest you avoid the Trail Boss and go for a 4 stroke Max II. You'll be much, much happier.

I still think a Trail Boss would make a good project candidate....if bought cheap enough. Maybe find 2 tubs for that $500 figure, split them and make a "tall tub" version. One that could fit 25" or so tires. This certainly wouldn't be any cheaper than buying a ready to ride MaxII, but it sure would make for a cool machine.

That's a great idea. The Hustler is a machine that's ten times better than the Trail Boss. You can fit up to 25" tires on a Hustler 950 too, just in case you are looking to upgrade.
