  • Amphicat- Body cracks

I just got my Amphicat home last night and got some time to look it over. The body as cracks in the ABS everywhere! The transmission is great along with all the drive-train. I'm looking for a way to repair this ABS. I need some scrap ABS plastic to turn to goop so I can goop the cracks back togeather. Any ideas?

Depending on how much you need there may be some plastic flanges on the inside that you could cut off and use for filler. I've also heard that Legos are ABS plastic, but I'm not sure on that one. Or do what I did and find someone with a junk body willing to cut you some chunks out of it

I'll see. First I'll try that chips in acetone and if it doesn't work at least I'll have the experience

Has any tried colour glue sticks?

I am curious to how a colour glue stick would work

I had use the black colour hot melt that stuck aggressively to anything I applied it too .

Why do we waste tax money on bridges and roads when we can all just drive AATVs

That might not be a bad idea. It might work. The body is VERY rough with LOTS of cracks.

My friend came across this product. Rec'Repair he gave me a kit for trail repairs and it looks like it may work very well for ABS.

                      ABS Plumbing Pipe

:Worx for me:. I put a section of ABS pipe in my lathe chuck and use a cheese grater file made for body work to shred it. It melts the same way with acetone. I have had no problem even with larger areas. I always use fiberglass tape on theselarger areas and liberally soak it with the ABS melt.

I was looking for abs plastic and found out some toys where acetone reactive. Along with a cheap small screwdriver set case, even the battery pack to my black and decker 18v would react to acetone. Just goin around the house with the acetone and dip your finger in it and rub plastic, lol. You will find it somewhere. Then figure out cost vs need it now, will replace later and chop it up.

                          Worst body ever repaired?

I have an Amphicat body that's very beat up. I was wondering if anyone has ever repaired a body that was in very bad structural condition. Is no body to gone to repair? Or is the plastic to brittle to ever ride on? I have a big mat of what I think is ABS, and I have acetone...

My other post got moved to this thred, thanks mike My body seems really brittle, even if I repaired it, would it start to crack again? Has anyone ever made some sort of skidplate that bonds to ABS... I was thinking of that. I have no doubt that it could be repaired, but I don't think it will hold up to even normal riding stress. Here's some of the cracks:
